Warm Up (15 mins)

30yd x 40yd area; Groups 3-players 1 ball.

i) Player A dribbles at speed to halfway point (cones), then passes the ball (using laces technique) to Player B.

ii) Player A then goes to where Player B is.

iii) Player B receives the ball and mimics Player A movement (Dribble then Laces pass) to Player C.

iv) Progress by adding a move during dribbling part & driving the pass from a further distance.

Coaching Points

1) Set Up Touches: Do the players dribble at speed to cones, but allow a 3-4yd run up to get sufficient momentum on the strike?

2) Technique of Strike: Hips facing target, striking leg inline with ball & target, focus on the ball, toe extended to expose laces part of foot, planting foot 4"- 6" to side of ball, strike through middle of ball and follow through.

3) Completion of pass: Weight? Height? Accuracy?

Activity One (20 mins)

30yd x 40yd area; with 2 age appropriate goals at either end.

i) Players A & B run with the ball to coned line; 15-yds from goal

ii) Using Laces technique; shoot on goal (be alert for rebounds)

iii) Collect your ball and join the other line

iv) When waiting in line, once the player in front of you goes past the red cone marker, you go. This will keep a repetitive flow to the activity.

v) To progress, change the lines to other side of goal. Shots now must be taken L-Footed.

Coaching Points

1) Run with ball speed: Does player r/with ball simulate a breakaway? Is the ball under control and straight? Is the set up touch before the shot soft and slightly towards the goal?

2) Technique of Strike: Are all techniques previously listed present in the shot? Is the player trying for too much power and sacrificing accuracy?

3) Shot Positioning: Is the player happy to hit the target (comfort zone) or once accuracy is established, is he looking to force the keeper to dive?

Activity Two (20 mins)

30yd x 40yd area; 6 v 6 to goal. 1-player (striker) must stay in attacking half

i) NO Restrictions

ii) Shots must be taken from defensive half. Rebounds can be scored.

iii) Shots can be taken in attacking half if striker is involved in the play.

iv) Once striker has the ball, anybody can join the attacking half.

Coaching Points

1) Confidence: Are players confident taking laces shots if available? Either foot?

2) Field Awareness: Do players see that IF they shoot from distance, it also opens up space underneath? IE, fake the shot and pass to striker. OR how their opponents have to cover the WHOLE field if players are willing to shoot from everywhere.

3) Quality of shot in game situation: How does the shot technique / accuracy / quality get affected under the pressure of a game situation? Why? How do you correct that?
