Stage 1

Conditioning for starting strength/ finishing

Player sprints from a starting position to the second cone where a ball is played to them. They then control the ball and finish on goal.

Duration: 1-3 seconds

Intensity: 100%

Reps: 6

Sets: 2

Rest: 10 seconds between reps/ 6 minutes between sets

Stage 2

Players keep possession in their grid with the objective of completing 6 consecutive passes to score a point. This gives a high incentive to not let your opponents possession, therefore teams need to work hard to win the ball and recover possession in 1v1 situations well. If the recovering team wins the ball, they play into their grid and the game begins again.

Objectives:

- Develop acyclic aerobic endurance

- Improving recovering possession in 1v1 situations

Set Up: 30x20 (adjust as necessary for players available)

Coaching Points:

- Speed of approach

- Body shape

- Patience/when to make a tackle

Duration: 6 blocks of 5 minutes (do not stop the exercise to make coaching points)

Intensity: 160-180 beats/minute (measure during breaks)

Reps: 5

Rest: 5 minutes between reps
