Ball Mastery (5 mins)

Organization:

Players in pairs

1 ball per player

Instructions:

- Pairs must complete moves in tandem and synchronized

-Ball Mastery Home Work L-Turn and L-Turn fake

-Right foot five times then Left foot five times

-First pair to ten

-Review V-move and move into Maradona (Main theme prep). Coach takes the lead

Coaching Points:

- Balance on 1 foot

- Hop standing foot forward to create space for the ball to travel

- Stop ball with opposite foot to start the roll across

- Transfer body weight from one foot to the other

Main Theme - Non-Opposed (10 mins)

Organization:

1. 15x10 area (x2)

2. Players work in groups of 3.

3. One ball per player.

Instructions:

1. First player from each line dribbles to halfway, performs Maradona and speed dribbles to end.

2. Players initiate process upon making eye contact.

3. Next player goes as soon as player in front reaches opposite line..

Coaching Points:

1. Head up to observe space.

2. Connect with teammate - eye contact.

3. Quality of approach - Messi touches.

4. Drag ball back with sole of foot

5. Drag ball away with sole of opposite foot

6. Use defenders momentum agains them

7. Accelerate away - Ronaldo.

Progressions:

1. Ensure players work on both sides. Left and right

2. Add cone to do Maradona inside of

Semi-Opposed (10 mins)

Organization:

1. 15x10 area (x2)

2. Defenders one side

3. Attackers with balls

Instructions:

1. Player on attacking side initiates activty by dribbling toward side cone on eye contact

2. Defender looks to beat the player there but must touch middle cone the head to the side

3. Attacker performs Maradona to go around passive defender as he/she arrives

4. Attacker moves to back of defending line, defender moves to back of attacking line.

5. Next two players repeat process upon making eye contact.

Coaching Points:

1. Head up to observe space.

2. Connect with teammate - eye contact.

3. Quality of approach - Messi touches.

4. Drag ball back with sole of foot

5. Drag ball away with sole of opposite foot

6. Use defenders momentum agains them

7. Accelerate away - Ronaldo.

Progressions:

Players work both sides. Left and right

Fully Opposed (15 mins)

Organization:

Same as before. Add two goals to each area

Instructions:

Defenders may now win the ball

Coaching Points:

1. Weight/direction of first touch.

2. Head up to observe space/defender.

3. Timing. Will defender arrive on time or late? Can player accelerate straight on instead of doing a Maradona

4. Execution of move.

5. Pick head up when ball out of feet.

6. Accelerate after move
