Tunnel Tig (10 mins)

Introductory Activity - 10 mins

Organisation / Coaching Points

Split into 2 groups.

Two catchers wearing bibs. All other players have a ball each. Catchers have to touch the players ball with their foot. When caught,players pick their ball up, stand with the legs apart and wait for another player to crawl between their legs to get back into the game.

Rotate catchers

Players must use - right foot only - left foot only - alternate feet

Toe taps / toe taps in a square/ sole taps /sole taps forwards and backwards / pull push

1) box the ball (progression box x5 turn 90 degrees, keep going until all the way round)

2) toe taps (progression -toe taps forwards and backwards)

3) pull push (progression - pull then push with outside)

Competition

- different skill at each station moving up the line. 10 repetitions at each one.

Protecting the Ball - Technical Practise (10 mins)

Technical Practise - 10 mins

Organisation

Players in pairs within a 10x10 yd square. Player 1 starts with the ball and tries to maintain possession with in the box from player 2. Swap roles every 45 seconds.

Competition

Start with a block tackle and see who finishes with the ball after coaches call (30 seconds). if ball goes out the area then restart. Swap partners.

Coaching Points

- 'Use your arm to protect your body and your body to protect the ball'

- Change direction quickly

- Keep body side on to create maximum distance between opponent and the ball

Organisation

1v1 in 15 x 15yd square with four neutral players around the outside. Aim is for the player in possession to maintain possession against the opponent in the middle using the players on the outside to exchange passes. One point for every pass successfully exchanged. Rotate pairs every 45 seconds.

Extension

- Outside players have one touch only

Coaching Points

- Consolidation of 'arm protects body and body protects the ball'

- Side on

- Pass and check away from defender to receive

- Use arm to feel where opponent is

4v4 - Possession (10 mins)

Posession - 10 mins

Groups split into two groups of 8. One group to work on possession with the other play four goal game.

Organisation

4v4 in a 24x 24 yard box. Emphasis is on players ensuring they take responsibility for keeping individual and team possession.

Variations

1) 3 touch maximum possession (5 passes for 1 point)

2) Man to man marking possession, each player can only tackle or be tackled by one player. (4 passes for 1 point)

3) Players must run around a cone on outside of box if they are the player that gives away possession

Coaching Points

- Detail of passing (accuracy, weight, safe side)

- Maintain individual possession (body between ball and defender)

- play with head up, have a picture before receiving possession

Questioning

- Tell me about the weight of pass required? which side?

- How would you position your body to protect the ball?

Organisation

4v4 on 24 x 24 yd pitches with a mini goal at each end as shown. Each player has ONE direct opponent who is the only player that can tackle them. Passes can be intercepted. 4 minute games x 3.
