Footwork Into a Catch/Dive

The goalkeeper starts in the middle of the goal. Throughout this practice, the goalkeeper recieves a catch in the middle. He then performs footwork towards one side and recieves a collapsing save (high or low). After this the goalkeeper returns to the middle for a catch before repeating the process to the next side.

The service can vary from a volley, half volley, throw, pass, or bounce.

Footwork can be changed depending on facilities or abilities.

Handling & Diving

This practice allows the goalkeeper to put the handling techniques into practice by offering success from server 1, and an active game related diving challenge from server 2

1) The Coach numbers the cones from 1 to 4. Cones cones to the right should be used when diving left (as shown above).

2) The coach then serves the ball to the goalkeeper for a straight W Catch.

3) The goalkeeper passes the ball back to the first server, and moves to perform a high collapsing save from the second server.

To progress this a double save can be made, a save on both sides, or a save into a cross.

When recieving from the left the goalkeeper touches cones on the right, and vise versa.

1) When a cone is called the goalkeeper must touch that cone before moving into line of the service from (2)

2) A volley, half volley, throw, or pass can be used as a service for the goalkeeper to catch the ball, before throwing the ball back and moving onto (3)

3) A near post shot for the goalkeeper to save at the same height as (Handling & Diving)

To progress this a double save can be made, a save on both sides, or a save into a cross.
