3v3 attacking function (20 mins)

Set Up: Play 3v3 in the attacking third (use the attacking half if more space is required). Two servers are in a grid outside the attacking third. They act as both servers and as targets for the defending team.

Instructions: To begin play the two servers pass the ball back and forth, once an attacker creates the space to receive the ball a server should play the ball first time wherever possible. The server who plays the ball joins to make it 4v3. The attackers work together to try to score. If the defenders win the ball, they look to play to one of the targets.

Variations: a) Have the server who did not pass the ball in join the attack.b) Play 3v3 where the servers are only support players c) Play a continuous game where if the defenders are able to pass to a target, they immediately become the attacking team. d) Have a recovering defender and have both servers join to make it 5v5.

Key Factors: Attackers must move to create space before receiving the ball. Qualityand timing of the pass from the servers. Have a positive attitude - look to get half turned and to shoot early. Mocement to create shooting opportunities. Look to enter the attacking half under control. Quality of the first touch. Quality and technique of the shot (across the face of goal). Secondary scoring chances.
