SAQ/Warm-up

Organization:

1. Open area.

2. Every player with a ball.

Instructions:

1. Players perform series of juggling challenges.

2. Players dribble around performing series of skills.

3. Play tag game without ball if players are too energetic or too cold.

Coaching Points:

1. Quality and direction of touches.

2. Head up to observe space.

3. Use various surfaces.

4. Play at various speeds.

Progressions:

1. End with knockout game.

3. One ball and cone per player.

Instructions:

1. Players perform movements following coach's cue/demonstration.

2. V-moves: same foot for entire movement and, two feet (pull back one foot, push forward other foot).

Coaching Points:

4. Technical execution

Progressions:

1. Combine - one foot into two feet.

2. Competition - first player to 20.

Semi-Opposed

Organization:

1. Two pairs per set of cones.

2. Cones: 3yd (blue from yellow), 9yd (blue from blue, yellow from yellow).

Instructions:

1. One pair plays, other pair rests/acts as referees.

2. Attacker: control ball on either of blue cone before defender arrives at corresponding yellow cone.

3. Defender: look to put a foot on cone before defender gets there with ball.

4. Defender cannot touch ball or attacker.

5. Defender is not allowed to move until attacker touches ball.

6. Referees judge who makes it to the cone first.

7. Rotate roles every two minutes.

Coaching Points:

1. Quick change of direction.

2. Exaggerate/sell movements to fake out defender.

3. Timing of movement.

4. Change of speed.

5. Technical execution.

6. Take the space/use speed if get ahead of defender

Progressions:

1. Decrease distance.

2. Remove neutral space in middle.

Fully Opposed

Organization:

1. 30x20 area.

2. Goals set up as shown.

3. Plenty of balls.

4. 3yd gates, 1yd apart, set up as shown.

Instructions:

1. Attacker stands in first gate with back turned.

2. Defender in 2nd gate plays pass into space.

3. Defender cannot attempt to win ball until attacker touches it.

4. Attacker can score in either goal on sides.

5. If defender wins ball, he attacks the counter goal in the center.

6. Once 1v1 battle has finished the next players move up the line

7. Next time that pair is on they switch roles.

Coaching Points:

1. Use techniques to evade/fake out defenders.

2. Use defenders own body weight/momentum against themselves.

3. Fake to shoot on goal before using one of the skills to change direction.

4. Speed of execution.

Progressions:

1. Add time limit.

2. Allow multiple pairs at once.

Instructions:

1. 3v3 free play.

2. Throw-ins. No corners.

3. Corners: start with ball at own goal.

Coaching Points:

1. Shape - width and depth.

2. Movement to create/maintain triangles.

3. Recognition of 1v1 scenarios.

4. Recognition of how/when to attack space.
