Passing & Receiving (20 mins)

Passing & Receiving:

Set-up: 4 players.

- Start with a ratio of one ball for ever

- Number players #1-4; U11 #1-8

- Balls start with number 1 and 7, and is passed around in sequence according to their numbers.

- Once players pass it they move to another part of the grid.

- Once ball reaches last player, he passes to number 1 to begin process again.

Progressions:

1) U9's > Can you take two or three touches instead of 5 or 6?

2) One team has balls and one team doesn't. Team scores points after every wall-pass. Switch roles.

2b) U10-U11 > First pass is short, the next pass is long. The next player in sequence must therefore move closer or further away to receive.

3) First pass is low, the next is high. Again receiving players must move into positions to receive the pass either along the ground or in the air.

Coaching Points: Move the ball quickly and accurately, position yourself with an open body. Are you peaking?

Caution: Ensure players are not static or remain in one area/position and are moving around the area when not in possession (this will happen more and more as more footballs are involved).

Combination 3v3+2 (20 mins)

Combination Game: 3v3+2 (if not enough numbers)

Set-up: Field 20 x 15 or 25 x 17.

Progression: 4 minute games. Losers have fitness.

GU10&U11

1) 5 passes = 1 point.

2) Get one point whenever you successfully play one touch with teammate

3) Get one point everytime you do a combination (wall-pass) with your team.

4) Play game 3 again after making coaching points.

GU9:

1) 3 passes = 1 point

2) Can you play with 2 or 3 touches? What must you do to connect more passes? (spread out & peak)

3) 1 point for every wall-pass

Coaching points: What should you do after you pass the ball? (introduce 3 step rule) Must pass and move. When you perform combination play, need to face up defender and pass and move around them.

For one touch game: players will want to force one touch passes all the time. Introduce decision making, when is the best time to one touch pass? (what should you do before receiving the ball to make this possible <peak>)

FUNino (40 mins)

3v3 Mini Soccer Warm-up:

Grid: 32 x 25 Yards with 6 yard end zones.

- 3 minute Games

- Can only score if shot is taken inside penalty area.

- Restarts by dribbling or passing the ball in

- If foul is committed inside penalty area then penalty is taken with one player starting at half field and on defender in zone. As soon as attacker takes touch, the players who are set-up behind the attacker on the 6 yard line are free to close down.

Progression:

i. Each Player must touch ball once since team won possession before scoring

ii. All players must be in offensive half for goal to count

iii. Make it, take it. Once you score you can attack opposite goal. Defending team cannot pressure until after team leaves shooting area in which they have just scored.

What is the best way for the attacking team to score several times in successsion?

Immediately after scoring, the scorer shouldn't try to run with the ball but should play it to a teammate who has made a run into space in midfield. All players who helped in the move that led to the goal should put distance between themselves and the ball and run into space in the opposing team's half of the field.
