Drill (5 mins)

METHOD

Player 1 passes to P2, who passes to P3, who turns and has a strike at goal. Each player follows their pass, with the player striking the ball collecting it and joining back of their group.

PROGRESSION

P1 passes to P3 who lays the ball off for P2 to have a strike at goal. P1 now becomes the lay off player, with P3 next to strike the ball. The player who shoots must collect their ball.

COACHING POINTS

- Non kicking foot next to the ball.

- Head and chest over the ball.

- Inside of the foot.

- Strike through with the laces of the boot (Top of foot).

- Arms out for balance.

Game related practice (10 mins)

METHOD

The starting player dribbles up and has a shot on goal. As soon as he shoots he turns defender, while a player from the other team must attack the other goal and try to score.

PROGRESSION

Two players come out and have a free shot on goal. The player that shoots comes off and the other must now try to defend against two from the other team, giving the attackers a 2-1 situation.

COACHING POINTS

- Head up before shooting (Check goalkeepers positioning for type of shot).

- Be aware of defenders position.

- Communicate with partner for lay-off.

- When off the ball, timing of runs/positioning to receive the ball.

Conditioned game (10 mins)

METHOD

Teams set themselves up in 1-3-1 formation. The condition for each team is that they must receive the ball from an end player before they can score.

PROGRESSION

When an end player recives the ball they can enter the play to create an overload to try and score. If play breaks down or a goal is scored the person who passed to them must become the end player.

COACHING POINTS

- Head up before shooting (Check goalkeepers positioning for type of shot).

- Be aware of defenders position.

- Communicate with partner for lay-off.

- When off the ball, timing of runs/positioning to receive the ball.

Mid 4 - Option 1 (5 mins)

METHOD

Neutral player plays the ball to a CM, to start an attack.

COACHING POINTS

- The defending CM gets touch tight to the player, so he cannot be turned.

- The closest wide player and other CM tuck in behind, forming a triangle. This prevents a through ball being played if the first defending CM is turned.

- The remaining full back tucks in, being aware of the wide players positioning.

Mid 4 - Option 2 (5 mins)

METHOD

Neutral player passes ball to a CM who passes it back. The neutral player passes it out to the wide player to start the attack.

COACHING POINTS

- Midfield 4 to react to fist pass by displaying option 1, relaxing to a compact 4 when passed back and react to wide pass.

- Wide player presses, showing down the line.

- Closesr defending CM tucks in behind, covering passing option to striker 1.

- Other defending CM comes across, covering passing option to striker 2.

- Wide player tucks in, offering balance, being ready incase of diagonal pass.

Indivdual practice - 1st touch (5 mins)

METHOD

The ball is played in to the individual, who controls the ball and passes out to the other side player.

PROGRESSION

The player passing the ball shouts out one of the colours of the box. the player must take a first touch that allows him to go round the cone and pass out to the other side.

COACHING POINTS

- Open the body up, contolling the ball on the back foot.

- Heal towards the floor.

- Soft ankle.

- Positive touch out from body, set for next pass/action.
