Passing Combinations Circuit (20 mins)

- for the coaching clinic purposes, we are demonstrating three passing patterns

- these three basic passing patterns would generally be used in the first technical portion of a training session to offer high repetitions of the passing and receiving actions, and promote efficiency in the player's passing habits via the direction and instruction of the coach

o the coach should reiterate the physical and communication points he/she presented to players at the beginning of the session

o in each passing pattern the coach should encourage efficiency in receiving the ball (i.e. body shape and receiving foot are "positive" or prepared for forward play

o just as players without the ball moved to space in "Keep Away" - player should come off the cone (which represents the defender) and show for the ball

Passing: Keep Possession (30 mins)

- grid size: dependent on age and size of players and the fitness demands of the session, you may use a 20x20 or 30x30 yard grid

- requirement: four different colored teams in groups of three (12 players in total, you may use up to 16)

- one group will start in the defending square (to add opposition)

- when the coach plays the ball (to any attacking team), the team in the defending square may send one defender into win possession of the ball and earn his/her team a way out of the defending square - the team who starts with the ball aims to make three passes before switching possession to their supporting team who are in the supporting squares

- the teams who are not in possession of the ball are to provide passing support to the team with the ball - one player from each supporting team should be in one grid each to offer support

- if the team in possession make three passes and are able to switch play to a supporting team, the team who receives the ball, his/her full team (all three players) need to rush into that grid immediately to make three passes as soon as possible - the next defender may not enter into the next grid until his/her teammate returns to the defending square
