Starting Lineup

Basic 1-4-2-3-1 formation as this has proven to be our strongest formation and gives us the most balance.

Tactical

1. Primary Focus: HIGH PRESS UP THE FIELD

* This team likes to play the ball out from the back lets aim to create some defensive havoc by applying pressure high up the field.

* must be a combined effort from #7, #9, 10 & #11 to work together to win the ball back.

*behind that front 4 applying pressure, the #6 & #8 must make sure they keep the gaps small behind them (and likewise the back line playing up a little higher).

* Have to always be aware of the counter attack as we may be playing a little higher up the field. There will be space in behind our back line players!

2. CONTROL THE INTENSITY OF THE GAME

* Stay calm throughout the game. This team has a tendency to be overly aggressive and argumentative (last game they had 2 red cards and 5 yellows! but we also had 2 yellow cards so caution is necessary)

* Don't be drawn into any arguments or retaliation for fouls or abusive language.

* Win the 50/50 battles with strong tackles. If we can maintain a little more possession then we can control the tempo and intensity of the game.

* Use your body well to shield the ball in the right spots on the field.

* keep the play out in front of our defensive line as much as possible so we are not chasing back to our goal.

3. LETS GO FOR THE WIN OFFENSIVELY

Getting the ball out wide to our #7 & #11. Create some mismatches in the wing areas (2 v1s) so we can get quality crosses into the box at various heights/depths

* Ensure that our #9 plays as high as possible as they tend to play a high line and we will have opportunities in behind their back line! we have to take those opportunities!

4. CONTROL THE MIDDLE OF THE FIELD with our #6 & #8. It's super important that we are:

*Strong in our tackles (winning 50/50 balls)

*accurate in our outlet passing to our #10, to our wing players etc

*plug the gaps and ensure we are a good shield for the defensive unit.

* How well we shut down the middle of the field with the #6 & #8 today will determine how well the game goes for us!!!
