***************************************************************************

OUR TOP, TOP, TOP PRIORITIES FOR TODAY (based on our training session priorities)

DISCIPLINE, DISCIPLINE/POSITION, POSITION, POSITION

Excellence in our set pieces (offensively and defensively

Deal aggressively with all balls in the air

Sit a little deeper and maintain our shape well.

Quality/composed finishing. Anything over the cross bar adds to consequences in training next week.

Quality and Accuracy of our passing

Switch the play from tight space to open space at every opportunity

***************************************************************************

DEFENSIVE UNIT

(#1, #2, #3, #4, #5) (ANDREW, BRIAN R, MADDEN, JACOB, JERRY, ZEBB)

STRENGTH IN OUR DEFENSIVE SET PIECES

COMMUNICATE, COMMUNICATE, COMMUNICATE AGGRESSIVELY!!!

TEAM SHAPE AND DISCIPLINE

OUR LINE OF CONFRONTATION WILL BE THE HALF WAY LINE. ALL OUR DEFENSIVE SHAPE COMES BELOW THAT POINT.

*1 v 1 individual defensive battles are key....YOU MUST WIN THOSE by being patient, focused on POSITION FIRST, ball second.

DO NOT OVER COMMIT IN 1 V 1 DEFENSIVE SITUATIONS

*VERY COMPACT BACK 4 -Work hard to have our #2 & #3 defensive backs stay narrow to really compress the middle of the field.

*if there is ball penetration, recover centrally

TRACK VERTICAL RUNNERS!!

*GK ROLE:

*Be conservative with ball distribution

*TAKE COMMAND OF YOUR BOX

*Punch aerial balls in the box whenever possible!

 ***************************************************

MIDFIELD UNIT

(#6, #8, #10) (NOAH, JACOB, ERIC, SAM, MARTIN, JERRY, COLTON, HUNTER)

KEEP OUR SHAPE DEFENSIVELY (DEFENSE/ATTACK)

*CAN WE INCREASE THE ACCURACY OF OUR PASSING?

* CAN WE LOOK TO PLAY THE BALL OUT OF TIGHT AREAS WITH A LONGER BALL (SWITCH THE PLAY OR SEND IT LONG AFTER A SERIES OF SHORTER PASSES)

DEFENSIVELY KEEP THE PLAY OUT IN FRONT OF US. DROP BELOW THE BALL

*DO NOT GIVE THE BALL AWAY CHEAPLY - IT'S PRECIOUS

Strong and aggressive in all phases of play!! Do NOT allow them to outmuscle us!

*TECHNICALLY: Ensure we get a good first touch, have our head on a swivel and don't hold onto the ball too long!

*HOW WELL CAN WE PLAY IN THE DIRECTION WE ARE FACING

**************************************************

ATTACKING UNIT

(#7, #9, #10, #11) (COLTON, ERIC, MADDEN, SAM, MARTIN, BRIAN V, JERRY)

***#7 & #11 really have to help out defensively more than usual and we almost become a 1-4-5-1 in defensive transition moments***

IT'S ALL ABOUT QUALITY FINISHING!!!!

QUALITY SET PIECES… make sure our delivery is excellent and consistent. Attack balls in the box. MAKE THE GK AND OPPOSITION DEFENDERS WORK!!

SWITCH THE FIELD OF PLAY.

#9 has freedom to roam and apply pressure, but all others fall in and get a solid defensive shape.

SPEED/EARLY RUNS THAT DICTATE PASSES

THE QUALITY OF OUR FINISHING DETERMINES THE RESULT:

*DO NOT DRIBBLE THE BALL INTO DEAD CORNERS IN NUMBERS DOWN SITUATIONS. Pull the ball back out and look for support.

*If we get opportunity to attack over the top we take it, otherwise #9 MUST hold up the ball to allow support players to join.
