Principle of Play: Balance
Key Factors:
1. Defend vulnerable space behind 1st and 2nd def.
2. Provide cover for 1st and 2nd defenders.
3. Loosely cover 3rd attacker - close enough to arrive if ball is switched.
4. Body orientation: see ball, attackers and teammates.

Set Up:
35*30 grid (adjust as needed). Two large goals. Two "delay" cones located between the goal post and corner cones. Supply of balls behind each net.
Players:
Play 4v4 plus Goalkeeper. Can set up two grids or rotate four teams of four players (every two minutes).
Description:
Normal game - regular rules. Only condition is if a ball is shot and saved by the GK or is put out of bounds, the attacker who last touched the ball must run around one of the two delay cones prior to rejoining her teammates in defending. Restart is always with the GK who saved the ball or with the team that was just defending. GK to get the ball into play as quickly as possible to take advantage of numbers up.
Questions:
Recovering defender: what is our responsibility?
1) Get behind the ball as quickly as possible. 2) Do we need to provide pressure, cover or balance?
See the guidance at the top of this page to understand why you are not seeing interactive Football/Soccer images.
Set Up: Half a quarter field at Pine Glen (can go cross field if needbe). Two set ups. Use one full goal on one end and two small 5-yard gates on the other end.
Players: 9 players, including one GK.
Description: 4v4 game; regular rules apply.
Questions: Who pressures the ball? Who becomes the second defender? Which defenders offer balance?
If you are a recovering defender and pressure, support and balance are taken care of, what can you do? Support: double team the player in possession of the ball from either the back or side.
See the guidance at the top of this page to understand why you are not seeing interactive Football/Soccer images.
Set Up: Quarter field at Pine Glen. Balls along the outside.
Players: 3 teams of 5 players (one team will have a subsitute). 5 outfield and 1 goalkeeper for each team on field. Two active teams; third team rests.
Description: Play 6v6 (including GK) - King's / Queen's court. All regular rules apply, including retreat line. Team that scores stays and quickly attacks the other way (after scoring). Resting team jumps on the field to defend. Team that got scored on leaves the field.
Key Factors:
All coaching points from the session - focus on delay and support. Look for players to get in behind the ball and make the right decision as to when to press and when not to press.

5v5+1 Channel Possession (15 mins)
Set Up: grid, 42 wide * 36 long. Two 5-yard channels along each side. Adjust size of grid as needed.
Players: 11 players - 5v5+1 (adjust as needed). Set up two small gates the teams can attack if no GKs.
Description: The objective is to get the ball into one channel and then into the opposite channel. A point is scored for the team that can play the ball into both channels consecutively. No scoring on goals at first. Team in possession must be patient as they work the ball towards both channels.
Progression: Add direction: A team can look to score once the ball has been played into both channels once.
