Key Factors
Maintaining good distances between defenders as they shuffle across as the ball is transferred. Ideally no more than 10 yards. Communication to full backs to show inside/outside depending on what cover is behind them. e.g. CM covering, show him inside towards the player.
Not to over cover and be susceptible to the switch. 2nd CB not past near post. FB not past penalty spot.
Pitch divided into 6 zones, 4 as in drill, and 2 larger wider zones, try to avoid 2 defenders in one zone, always have 4 zones covered.
Organisation
Pitch shorter due to lack of numbers, taking out area that would be occupied by Red CB/ Blue ST.
balls at one end, always begin with red CM with ball.
Attacking objective - Score
Defending objective - Win ball back and carry ball through red gates on either side.
After a goal or the ball going out, defenders are allowed to regain shape before beginning again from attacking CM.
Zonal Back 4 - Drill (20 mins)
Key Factors
defence shuffle across as a unit, as ball is tranferred side to side, nearest man presses the ball, covering defenders position accordingly making 'dog leg' or 'triangle' defensive shapes. pressing player encouraged to use body shape to show attacking player towards the side they have the most defenders.
Organisation
Defenders must initially stay in their own designated square, attacking players can play in 2 designated squares.
Progression is that players can go anywhere within their own row.
Balls at each end, to maximise playing time
Attacking objective, 3 passes then try to transfer bal across, around full back = 1 point, between defenders = 3 points.
Defending objective, interecpt pass and find target player in direction you were facing, 3 points
