3v3/4v4 (15 mins)

Set Up: Field approximately 30*25

Play 3v3 to start session. Create multiple fields to limit the number of players sitting out. If numbers don't allow for 3v3 then play smaller numbers like 2v2 or 3v2 if necessary.

Play 3 games approximately 2-3 minutes long and offer the players some basic pointers between and during games like spread out and look for space.

Encourage players to be creative to relax and play. Use this time to learn the players' names. You can coach through the flow of the game if necessary.

Dribble turn pass. Moves to help keep the ball (15 mins)

Set up: You can use the same 30*25 grid from first activity. Divide players into groups of 2 with each group having a ball and have them set up as shown in the diagram. Place cones in the middle of the grid for each group to use as a reference point to turn.

Players dribble to cone in the middle performs turn then passes to teammate.

Turns to perform: pull back, inside chop, outside chop, cruyff

Coaching Points:

- ***Passing technique - locked ankle, heel down, toe up, standing leg and hips facing partner (most imprtant point of the day)***

- **Receving technique - receive with inside of foot, foot slightly off the ground, try to touch the ball in the direction you want to go next**

  • keep the ball close and under control
  • eye contact with partner and saying their name before passing
  • take a touch with every step
  • Advanced:quick pass after turn. Try to reduce the time between turn and pass

2v1 Attacking Decisions (15 mins)

Set Up: Use an area 20*15. Set up multiple fields if necessary

Play 2v1. Team with 2 scores by dribbling through either of the two small gates shown in the diagram. If the defender wins they ball he/she score by passing or dribbling through the single gate on the opposite end. Team with 2 always starts with the ball.

Players that are waiting will need to have cone markers to let them know where to stand to keep them 6 feet apart for the short time they will be waiting.

Be sure to switch sides so that both teams get a chance to attack and defend.

Coaching Points:

  • What is the best part of the foot to use to play an accurate pass? Inside (review passing technique, inside of foot, hips facing partner, ankle locked)
  • When is a good time to dribble? When you have space. Encourage players to quickly exploit space when it is there.
  • When is a good time to pass? When the defender is close to me and my teammate is open
  • What should you do when your teammate is dribbling with the ball? Move to a place I can receive the ball (not stand behind the defender)
