1v1 off of a set (20 mins)
Set Up: Divide the team into two groups and then subdivide each of those groups into two more (4 total, 2 smaller groups for each). Set up as shown with the pole furthest away from the goal at approximately 25 m. The second pole 10 m in from that. Make sure there is a supply of soccer balls for the attackers so there is little delay in each pair going.
Instructions: Player A plays the ball into Player B who sets for Player A. Meanwhile both Player A and Player 1 (the defender) sprint around the pole as Player A collects the set and looks to finish. Player 1 tries to stop him or her. Once they have finished, Player B will become the defender as the other team now attacks (Player 2 initiates with a pass).
Coaching Points: Quality technique for both the pass and the set. Attack at speed. Look as you round the pole to assess options. One good move is better than 7 OK ones. Use the appropriate finishing technique.
