Set up:

2 lines of cones opposite each other 15 - 20 yards apart.

Start with player 1 who passes the ball to player 2 (player 2 will be moving along to cones to receive the ball and pass it back to the opposite side) player 2 then passes to player 3 and then moves into position 4, then passes to player 5 and so on until the player receives the ball at number 8 position and then he can finish with a long pass to position 9.

Session (30 mins)

The aim to to try and score when attacking in the final third but focusing on central areas, if the reds score withint he central zone then its 3 goals. If the Blues win the ball back then their aim is to try and get the ball back to the red number 6.

Options for attacking in central areas: (paint these pictures and talk about triggers)

1) 1v1 against for 9 or 10 against central defenders.

2) Cross early upon receiving deep (also the type of cross as well) - could 4 or 8 arrive late on the edge of the box if the cross was cut back (Lampard style shot)?

3) 9 or 10 drops in to combine play with either 7 or 11 (1-2 around the full back)

4) 4 or 8 to support 7 or 11 so that the ball can be rotated to the other side (switching play) if needed to create the opportunity to centrally after creating space.

Also look at "on,around & away" from the ball and "before, during & after" as well.

SSG (20 mins)

Now a SSG and the player in the green bib will play for the team who is in possession of the ball, that way it should encourage an overload so they can focus on attacking in wide areas
