Coaching Points:

  • Give and Go combination.

Coaching Points:

  • Proper weight and accuracy to your passes makes it easier for your teammate to receive.
  • Focus on a good first touch to improve your likeliness of a good pass.
  • Player receiving the pass should be on their toes ready to receive and demanding the ball.

2v1 Attacking Play to Puggs (20 mins)

Title: 2v1 Attacking Play to Puggs.

Purpose:

Attacking in numbers up situations (2v1, 3v2).

Organization & Objective:

Two teams of 4-8 players each. The attacking team will create two lines at the top of the grid opposite of the goal. The defending team will start in one of the corners with all the soccer balls. If the defender wins it, they can speed dribble to the end line for a point.  Keep score. Switch roles after 5 minutes.

Progressions:

  • The attacking team must perform an overlapping run.
  • The attacking team has a 2 pass maximum.

Coaching Points:

  • Player with the ball, take the space given until the defender steps.

7v7 Goal Kick Build Up - Walk Through (20 mins)

Title: 7v7 Goal Kick Build Up

Purpose:

Walking through the positional responsibilities and options we have from a goalkick.

Organization & Objective:

Set your team up in a 2-3-1 formation + the goalkeeper. No defenders. Start the ball with the goalkeeper as if taking a goal kick in a game. The ball should be placed on one corner of the small box to indicate to all players the direction that the build up will start. From there, every player has a responsibility. If placed on the right side of the box, the right defender, right midfielder, center mid, and striker should form a diamond as indicated in the animation. The same side mid should "Paint their boots" meaning feet should be on the sideline. CM stays central and striker stays high, keeping the diamond shape. The opposite side defender and midfielder tuck in. If the ball gets placed on the left, the left side defender gets ready to receive, left midfielder paints the boot, and the CM and striker move across to form the diamond. Opposite defender and outside mid tuck in. Walk through this process with the team. THEN, set a challenge that the team must keep their shape, every player must touch the ball, and then you can score. Time them to see how effective and efficient they can be.

Progressions:

  • Set a minimum number of passes (8 - 10 - 12) before they can score. Continue to time them.

  • Add 2-3 defenders.

Coaching Points:

  • The play begins with a firm confident pass from the GK to the outside back.
  • The defender should dribble under control until a defender comes to them.
  • THEN, find an option. The "Paint the Boot" outside mid is open 93% of the time.
  • Hit any pass firmly and confidently.
  • As the play goes forward, all players should join and attempt to maintain that 2-3-1 shape.

9v9 Goal Kick Build Up - Walk Through (20 mins)

Title: 9v9 Goal Kick Build Up

Purpose:

Walking through the positional responsibilities and options we have from a goalkick.

Organization & Objective:

Set your team up in a 3-2-3 formation + the goalkeeper. No defenders. If you play a different formation, then this can be adjusted. Start the ball with the goalkeeper as if taking a goal kick in a game. The ball should be placed on one corner of the small box to indicate to all players the direction that the build up will start. From there, every player has a responsibility. If placed on the right side of the box, the right defender, right midfielder, same side center mid, and striker should form a diamond as indicated in the animation. The same side mid should "Paint their boots" meaning feet should be on the sideline. CM stays central and striker stays high, keeping the diamond shape. The center back offers a back supporting option. The opposite side center mid, defender, and outside midfielder tuck in. If the ball gets placed on the left, the left side defender gets ready to receive, left midfielder paints the boot, and the CM and striker move across to form the diamond. Everyone else shifts.

  • The pass to the outside back is the safest, BUT the CM can be played from the get go. Goalkeeper or center back must make a firm - confident pass.
  • If players off the ball move into open space, there should always be at least 3 options for the player with the ball.
  • If a player with the ball has the ability to "Drive" (Dribble) with open space in front of them, then do so until defenders pressure.
  • Keep the triangles and diamonds and the shape will remain in place.
