Principle of play: Defending the final 3rd - Understand when and how to minimize space, deal with crosses / shots & protect space centrally in the defensive third
Organization:
Space: 60m x 55m with one big goal and 2 small goals
Time: 3x 7min sets with 3 min rest in between
Focus team red is in a 4-4-2 flat formation (Missing the 2 forwards)
Opposition team blue is in a 4-3-3 formation (missing their 2 Center Backs and GK)
Explanation:
Game GK+ 8v8 SSG. Focus team is defending the big goal while the opposition team the 2 small goals.
Challenges, Conditions or Targets:
Target: The goals are the target. Team that scores more wins.
Conditions: Red team has 8 seconds to finish their attack when they win the ball.
Challenges: The coach challenges defensive team by managing the opposition to try different ways of penetrating to the final 3rd. 1) At first it can be centrally to work with defensive team on protecting the center and defending narrowly
2) Next challenge could be for coach managing the full backs to attack and create width and a possible overload in the wing so the defensive team needs to deal with the situation of defending in wide areas of the final third
3) Next the coach manages opponent on trying to attack the space behind with timed runs and passed behind defensive line
Key Points:
Out of possession (focus team red):
Protect the area in front of goal
Compactness when opponent attacking centrally
Leave furthest player when ball is on one side
Stop crosses/shots
In possession (opposition team blue - managed):
Width and depth
Play through, around or over the opposition
Combinations to create shooting opportunities

Organization:
Space: 40m x 50m with one big goal and two small goals
Time: 4x 4min sets with 2 min rest in between
Focus team is red that has a back 4 and GK
Opposition team is blue that has a front 3 and an attacking midfielder.
Explanation:
Game with GK+4 vs 4. Focus team is defending the big goal and attacking the 2 small goals while the opposition (attacking) does the opposite.
Challenges, Conditions or Targets:
Targets: The goals are the targets and the team that scores more wins
Conditions: 1) Ball always starts for the blue team unless the coach decides to give the red a chance to attack to motivate them.
2) The attacks of the red team when they win the ball cannot last more than 6 seconds.
Challenges: 1) Coach manages opposition at first to attack centrally so the defending team can work on defending narrow and protecting the area in front of goal
2) When defending team has success the next target from the coach is to manage opposition to have wingers very wide so that defending team can work on situations defending the defensive 3rd from wide areas.
