Football/Soccer Session (Difficult): Channel Passing (Between the Lines)

Screen 1 (10 mins)

Penetrating Passing Drill - 6 passes equals a goal.

Team with the ball (blue) try to pass through the defensive lines.

6 successful passes earns a goal

Team without a ball (red), tries to intercept the pass (no tackles, players must stay within their box)

If the defending team intercepts the pass, or a pass goes out of play, then there is a turnover in posession and the reds become the attackers

Coaching Points

Encourage the players to be aware of space to receive a pass

Attacking players with the ball can still use a skill move to create space for a pass.

Defending players to be aware of oppositions position behind them to cut out the pass (look over their shoulder

Attacking players in boxes 3 & 4 have an advantage that if there is not a pass on, they can turn and see if there is another option. (watch and see if the players notice this.

Attacking players behind the player with the ball can still move to create space in anticipation of a turn and simple pass.
