Aim

To enhance a players ability and decision making when facing a man to man attacking sitiuation (1v1, 2v2, 3v3)

Objective one

By using progressive drills, it will allow the performer to gather knowledge within the different stage and display what decisions would need to be made at the certain points.

Objective two

By drip feeding in coaching points, it will allow the performer to see clearly how they could beat the defenders in these situations consistantly.

Objective three

Using real life examples and pictures, it will convey to the performers hpow certain players deal with defenders in these situations.

The session below will last for roughly an hour.

Equipment

15 fully blowen up size 4 footballs.

5 of blue and red coloured bibs

6 pop up mini samba goals

25 of white, blue, red, yellow, orange plastic cones.

10 of blue and red flat markers.

Dynamics (5 mins)

Organizational / Instructions

Players will be inside the 18 yard box, moving around freely performing a number of different dynamic and static stretches that will be used to prepare their bodies for the session ahead of them.

The stretches will include content that will be used to prepare the specific parts of the body that is essential when used in football.

These movements include:-

Flamingo- participant balances one leg, cross the other over and grabs with hand, they then stretch up and bring the leg up with them as they extend their knee on the balanced leg stretching out the hip flexors.

Lollipop:- participant lunges to the side in order to stretch the satoris muscle. After 5 seconds the participant then twist the outstretched leg.

Lunges:- these will be performed in a walking motion with the performer taking three or 4 steps in between, the knee will remain two inches off the ground in order to to maintain stability. The chest will stay up and the knee and hip must stay in a straight line in order to achieve the correct stretch.

Squats:- the stretch will be used to prime the lower back muscles and gluteus Maximus. In order to do so, performers must ensure that their back is straight, chest remains up right.

Other movements such as the Russian Walk, Flickouts and small side steps are performed.

1v1 (10 mins)

Organizational / Instructions

Blues will be the attackers and whites are the defenders, defending only the highlighteds area they are in within the blue markers.

The dimentions on the blue box will 5 yards x 5 yards.

The blues will dribble around the area trying to get in and out of evry zone without losing the ball to any white defenders in their zone.

The blues must ensure that they use a variation of skills and to choose the right time to make their move through the box.

If the blues loose the ball to the white player within their box, they will swap over with the blue player going into the highlighted area.

Coaching Points

- Quick feet within the small spaces.

- Decision making has to be perfect.

- Body to remain low, change direction quicker.

- Scanning to make sure where the space is.

- Awarness of where the defenders are at all times.

- Small touches on the ball allows the ball to stay under control.

- Variation of skill.

Adaptations

- More blue boxes.

- Decrease total area size.

2v2 (15 mins)

Organizational / Instructions

two variatiosn of the drill will occur.

The first will see the defender play the ball into the attacker, once the ball has been played into the attacker, the other attacker should spin and move into space. The attacker waiting on the ball should play a first time pass into the player in space, as this happens the dfenders can them come and press.

Second variation will start from the attacker, he will play it into the other attackers feet where he will take a creative touch to move it into space. As the touch happens, the defenders can come and press.

Coaching Points

- Creativity

- Variation of pass

- Skills need to be on show

- Low body position

- Scanning to see the defenders

- Awareness of the space

- Quick reactions to the opposition.

Adaptions

- Limit amount of touches.

- Time Limit.

3v3 (15 mins)

Organizational / Instructions

The game is setup with the team split up again into being attackers (Blues) and defenders (Whites).

The game will always start with the attacking team playing the ball into the central blue player. That player will already be battleing in the middle with another defender.

The ball will be played intothe middle players feet who wll the have the choice to be creative to get away from the player or play in one of his team mates making a run.

Once the first pass has been played however, the other two white defenders can then come into play.

Play will go on until one team scores a goal. After this has happened, the other three attackers and defenders who have been resting will come and swap with the other teams.

Coaching Points

- Communication within the three attackers.

- Creative as possible.

- Always moving in and out of spaces.

- Variation of skills.

- Variations of runs (in behind, short, setting up potential 1-2s)

- Positive touches going forward.

- Being physically ready.

Adaptations

- Limit amount of touches.

- Time limit on game.

Eliminator (15 mins)

Organizational / Instructions

Both teams will start off with equal numbers in each team, but it isnt a proper game.

If your team scores a goal, the opposition lose a player meaning it may be 5v4 or 3v2.

This is used to help the pace of the game as well as see how players decision making has chnaged within the whole session.

The game will go on until the goalkeeper is the last player on the team.

Coaching Points

- Make use of the advanatge.

- Runs into plenty of space are essential.

- Communication with your team.

- Variation of skill when beating a man.

- Keeping the body low to encourage a quicker change of pace.

- Awareness of where the space may be within the opposition team.

- Passes being played into space and behind the defensive line to run onto.

Adaptations

- Make two/three touch to up the tempo and increase level of decision making.

- Decrease length of park.

Cool down (5 mins)

Organizational / Instructions

During the stretches, the coach will recap on what has been covered with an answer and question of the session.

All stretches that are performed are as followed...

- All stretches will be performed for 30 seconds with the captain informing the team of the next stretch or when to switch leg.

- Player will sit on the ground with both feet touching each other, they will then apply light preassure to the knees and force them lightly to the ground.

- Players stay seated, will straighten one leg and bring the other leg over. The leg that is over the other will be pulled towrads the players chest in order to stretch out the back of the hamstring.

- They will then move to the side of their body and bring up on of their legs up to try and touch the very bottom of their back. This will stretch out the back of the hamstring of the player.

- Lastly, the player will bring up their leg into a similar position to the pigeon pose in yoga and will bring their back up straight up so that their chest comes through.
