Teaching the three trypes of penetration (through around and over) and if we cant do that can we possess the ball
Edgemont Clinics U10-12 11/9: Possession vs penetration
See the guidance at the top of this page to understand why you are not seeing interactive Football/Soccer images.
Organization:
As above. Grid approximately 25x30. Four 2 yard gates laid out as above in each corner
Instructions:
Three teams of three or four based on numbers. Teams play 6v3 (or 8v4). Team in possession (with numbers) scores by connecting 6 passes. The defenders score in one of the 4 cone gates by dribbling through them. Switch defending teams every 5 minutes.
Coaching Points:
* Move the ball quickly to score on offense
* Hunt for the ball in packs after a bad touch
* Three types of penetration: Over, Through, around
* Eyes up, play out of pressure if penetration is not on (where is the space?)
Progressions:
P1: Defenders can now shoot the ball through the gates for a point
P2: Coach can vary service (in the air, bouncing, etc) to players to start the game
P3: Goalkeepers can be introduced as nuetral players who can only use their hands
See the guidance at the top of this page to understand why you are not seeing interactive Football/Soccer images.
Organization:
As above. Grid approx 30x30. Three teams of three or four players. Balls with the coach.
Instructions:
Players play 4v4 in the middle of the area with two nuetral players on each endline (still inside of the area). Teams score a point by connecting passes from one endline to another. Defending team attempts to win the ball and play passes between these nuetral players to score also. Nuetral players on the same endline may not play passes to each other but nuetral players can play passes endline to endline. Rotate nuetral players every 5 mins. Team with the most points wins. Nuetral players have two touches to start with.
Coaching Points:
* Open body shape to create pentrating pass after receiving the ball.
* Three types of penetration (through over and around)
* If penetrating is not on, that is cue to recycle the ball and keep possession.
* Where is the space? If I can't go through, can I go around or over?
* Shorten passes to make combination play quicker (give and goes, overlapping runs, etc)
Progressions:
P1) One touch from nuetral players
P2) Add pugg goals lift restrictions. Teams play 4v4 first to two goals or 3 minute games. Winner stays on.
