Functional Practice

Instructions:

Ball starts from the yellow player.

Their are two blue players on the outside of the area who have to stay on the outside (shows the trend of deep lying midfield players playing further apart to split a twin screen). The 3 of them are looking to get the ball into the 2 players in the second box. If this happens then the 2 wide players can join in, They are looking to score. The ball must go through the middle line to penetrate though, they can't play around the midddle line.

If the defending team win it, they score by fiding the target player.

Coaching Points:

1. Nearest player showing for the ball

a - Defender stands still = receive yourself

b - Defendder moves on pass = let it run to team mate (yorke and cole)

c - Defender comes with you = play pass in behind defender for team mate to run onto

2. Furthest player showing for the ball / Nearest player moving away

a - Defender stays = receive to fee

b - Defender comes with = play in behind, attacker pull away

c - Defender comes with as ball is passed = give and go

Instructions:

Blue team plays a 3-4 to try and stretch out the twin screed

White team plays a 1-4-2-1

Blue team scores in the big goal

White team looks to score in the counter goals

Coaching Points:

1. How do the holding midfield players move the defending holding midfield players out of zone 14

2. If we get the ball into zone 14 how do the forward players combine to exploit being in that zone

3. WHEN and WHY do the forward players stay wide and WHEN and WHY do they come infield
