Specific Practice - Organisation (11m)
9v9: Coaching the reds (GK-2-3-3), managing the blues (GK-4-2-2)
Pitch Size 70m x 60m (3/4 pitch)
Tapered Area to replace red full backs.
Start/Restart:
RED GK/Coach feeding play. 5 + 4 Splitting to receive.
Defender who does not receive the ball can join 6 to help create a midfield box.
As a Starting point - 9 Stays high and central, 7 +11 maintain width and height, 8+10 create box with 6+ Defender / Triangle with wide player.
Block 1 (4m)- Playing through - Quickest and most successful way to goal - What if - opposition play man for man?
Managing the opposition - Out of possession - Man for man (+1 at the back for realism) to encourage spaces for split passes to play through.
Free Play (30s - 1m) - Challenge 'Can you play the ball into and finish from the final third as quickly as possible' Condition 'Can't play over' - Observe if players naturally pull wide to create gaps for 9.
Walk through - KP - 8/10/6+Defender make animated box big - Creating Gaps between two hold players. Can the 9 come off his man into created space to receive between the lines. 9 must receive to play forwards, unless marked. Rapid movement from 6 support behind, 7/11 support beside (width), 8/10 support beyond (midfield runners).
Block 2 (4m) - Playing around - What if - we can't play through?
Managing the opposition - out of possession - Can they stop them playing through, close the gaps and stop the No.9 Getting on the ball - Stay narrow and compact leaving the furthest man. This will encourage the reds to play around.
Free Play (30s - 1m) - Challenge 'Can you play the ball into and finish from the final third as quickly as possible'. Condition 'Can't play over' - Observe if players react to not being able to play through and if they naturally play wide.
Walk through - KP - 8/10/6+Defender make animated box narrow, higher up the field - Pinning holding opposition CM and full backs in their narrow and compact shape. This will create passing lanes into our 7/11 . 7/11 come off the man (maintaining width) receiving to play forwards unless marked tight. Rapid movement from 6/Defender support behind and closest 8/10 support beside (creating a triangle). IF full backs engage 7/11 - Can 8/10 now exploit space between opposition FB and CB. Furthest 6/defender covers centrally. IF we are successful in attacking that side, opposite 8/10, 9 and 7/11 support beyond (midfield runners) in the box. IF we can not break down opposition on that side can we try play through (an unsettled) central area or can we switch play quickly through deep laying players (opposite attacker hold width), to unsettle opposition shape.
Conditions, Challenges & Targets
1. 1 point every time Reds Split opposition lines. 3 points = Goal.
2. Blue team have 6 seconds to score (re-started from Red Keeper)
3. Limited touches in possession to speed up play - 2 or 3 touch max - 3 second max on the ball or free kick.
4. Coloured cones on side lines will represent defensive intervention and line for blues.

9v9: Coaching the reds (GK-2-3-3), managing the blues (GK-4-2-2)
Pitch Size 70m x 60m (3/4 pitch)
Block 1 (4m) - Game scenario
Observation of decision making and learning - Playing through or around.
Are the players able to recognise when to and how to play through or around - Are they reacting to opposition pressure? Are they creating spaces for others to play?
Introduce What if - Opposition play a flat three in midfield? Opposition change to 4-3-1.
Can 8/10 pull opposition into wide areas - 7/11 rotate into space left.
Block 2 (4m) - What if - High press - Manage opposition to try win the ball back high up the pitch. Conditions for opposition - Defensive line must be inline or higher than red cones to score. Challenge - win the ball back in 6 seconds for bonus point (3 points a goal).
Play the pass to attract the pressure - Body shape to attract pressure (back to goal). Bounce pass, Third man running to exploit space in behind left by high press.
Stay high 7/11, 9 to attract high line by moving between lines just off their defender.
