A session aiming to improve our transition when going from defending into attack and making the most of the lose balls and changing of possession.
See the guidance at the top of this page to understand why you are not seeing interactive Football/Soccer images.
- 3 teams of 4
- 30x45 yard pitch, 4 goals at each end
- Coach plays the ball to the middle team
- Middle team attacks one of the end teams, trying to score in one of the 4 goals
- If the attacking team scores, play stops and the team who were inactive the previous round move into the middle and the others choose one end each and play restarts
- If the defending team wins the ball, they instantly start to attack the inactive team who become the defending team, whilst the team who lost possession go and defend the end they have just been attacking
E.g. White attacking red. Red win the ball and transition to go and attack blue. White now occupy the red end whilst red plays against blue.
------------------------------------
Progression: Once a goal is scored, use the same transition rather than a straight restart from a new set up. E.g. if white score vs red, red resume play instantly moving to score against blue with white occupying the end they've just scored at whilst red attack the blues.

Transition Game 1 (10 mins)
- 20x30 pitch, 2 teams
- One team at each end, one goal at each end
- Coach plays the ball to the 1st player from the attacking team who plays a 1v1 against the first player from the defending team
- Once the ball goes out/on the coach's whistle, defending team adds a player and becomes the attacking team in a 2v1 (2 attackers vs 1 defender).
- Play to the whistle/ball going out and form a 2v2, repeating this pattern with the defending team gaining a player each time before transitioning into the attack.
- Ball is always played to the attacking team
- Defending team always gets the extra player and then become the attacking team
- High intensity, react to the whistle, quick in the transition
