Progression 1
Introduce neutral players off whom Red MF can play.

Progression 2
No.8 can enter MF area after passing the ball to any Red MF or by dribbling into the area.

Progression 3
Any Red Defender can enter the MF area. Any Red MF will enter the attacking third.
If the ball is played to the neutral player, the coach can call out 'attack' and the neutral player will quickly run with the ball before crossing the ball into the area.
No.10 must support No.9 plus No.7 or No.11 must support the attack by looking to cover area towards the back post.
Defence must adjust positions as above.

Progression 4
As Progression 3, except this time, if either neutral player can play a 1-2 with the Red MF player, that is the trigger for running with the ball and crossing the ball in.

Organisation
Create a pitch 80x50 yard and create a central midfield area 30 x 30 yards - heading 20 yards into attacking half.
Divide players into two teams - 9 red and 7 blue.
Red team to play 2-2-3-1; Blue team to play 2-3-2
Place 3 red MFand 3 blue players into MF area.
Red team to be coached.
Aim
Red team seek to score but only by playing the ball through the central MF area.
Instructions
Condition red team that in order to score, the ball must be played through the central MF area. Once ball has exited the central MF area through the furthest side, two Red MF can join the attack, but one red MF player must remain within the central MF area to provide balance and in anticipation of a counter attack.
No Red MF player can leave the central MF area except for the purposes of attacking as above and once possession is lost from that attack, the Red MF must re-enter the central MF area.
To begin with, no other player from the red or blue team may enter the central MF area.
Red team seek to score by playing through MF zone. If the Blue team gain possession, they have 10 seconds in which time to score.
Coaching Points
Red Midfield players to create space for defenders or No.6 or No.8 to pass to them through:
a. 'Go to Show'
b. 'Show to Go'
c. Switch
If insufficient players, consider playing 2v2 in MF area together with a neutral player.
Encourage players to retain possession by returning ball, for instance to a defender/No.6/8, if no other options are available, and playing ball to the other side of the pitch via goalkeeper.
