Exercise 1: Drill (15 mins)

Time: 15 Minutes

Organisation:

-Set up 10x10 linked grids, as many as required.

-Split players into pairs and into a grid each.

Exercise:

-One player starts in possession.

-The other player pressings and tries to win the ball,

-The player in possession cannot go outside the grid.

-If the player pressing wins the ball then switch roles.

-Run for 2 minutes then rotate one group of players to another grid.

-Play continuos 2 minute spells so all face each other.

Key Points:

-Show where to press the opposition player.

-Angle of movement to press.

-Timing of the challenge.

Exercise 2: Progression (15 mins)

Time: 15 Minutes

Organisation:

-Same as previous but link the grids opposite.

Exercise:

-Same as previous exercise but this time players in opposite grids work with each other.

-Player in possesion aims to get into the second grid and get ball to partner.

-If succesful player moves back into own grid.

-The other players press and aim to win the ball as previous and as before same switch roles.

-Play 2 to 3 minute spells then switch players like before.

Key Points:

-All as previous but now add defending player in group without the ball looks to anticipate where the attacking player is going to move into the grid.

Exercise 3: Progression 2 (15 mins)

Time: 15 Minutes

Organisation:

-Same set up once more but all grids are linked.

Exercise:

-This time with the exercise all players and grids are linked to get ball from one end to the other with oppositie team pressing and trying win the ball.

-All players stay in their own grid except when running the ball into the opposite grid before moving back.

Key Points:

-As all previous but add how the players can assess where the ball is moved and dictate where team in possession goes.

Exercise 4: SSG (30 mins)

Time: 30 Minutes

Set Up:

-Set up pitch size as big as possible with central area split into 2 even zones and a wide channel on each side.

-Split players into 3 even teams.

-2 of each on each central zone and 1 of each in channels.

-Other team set up as common players on outside of the grid.

Exercise:

-Common players at the top of the grid play passes into the first grid to start game.

-They aim to get ball into scoring positions by transferring balls through the zones.

-Players must stay inside their zones.

-If team defending goal wins ball they perform same role and score by getting the ball to common players at the top of the grid.

Progression:

-If time spare then remove zones and play game as normal.

Key Points:

-See how the players apply the principles of the session into the game.
