Session Objectives
What? - Improve the team's ability to transition after giving the ball away in wide areas
When? - When the team has given possession away in wide areas
Where? - Def to middle third
Who? - Focus group: #2,3,4,5,6 (in conjunction with #1,8,7,11)
Why? - To deny the other team counter attacking to goal
Team Tactical Principles
1. Pressure the ball immediately after losing it, using players closest to the situation.
2. Get organized and balanced as quickly as possible, make it compact.
3. Delay the opponents' attack when outnumbered.

TOTAL DURATION: 10 minutes

INTENSITY: Moderate to hard
DIMENSIONS: L30xW40 yds.
DESCRIPTION:
- Split into two groups, one group numbered 1 and the other is numbered 2
- All players dribbling around
- If coach calls out '1', the 1s have to leave their ball and try and recover the ball from the 2s
- Play for 30 seconds and then everyone dribbles again

INTENSITY: Hard
DIMENSIONS: Each playing space is L40xW25 yds.
DESCRIPTION:
- 3v3 in each box + 1v1 beyond final zone
- Ball starts from the #4 or #5 playing out to the #2 or #3
- Yellows start behind white line and come press once the #2 or #3 receive the ball
- Objective is for the reds to pass into target player who then sets the ball back to a supporting run into the zone for a successful point
- When yellows win it, score in counter goals
COACHING POINTS:
- Quick transition to defend
- Pressure the ball immediately
- Make it compact
- Deny penetration through central areas

- 7+GK v 7 + 1v1 in final zone
- One yellow can start in first zone and remaining yellows start behind white line and come press once the #2 or #3 receive the ball

- Once yellows win it, counter to goal
COACHING POINTS:

INDIVIDUAL PLAYER TASKS:
- #1: Communication to the team (press, get compact).
- #4,5: Closest to the ball presses, furthest from the ball tucks inside.
- #6: Drop in quickly and help defend.
- #2,3: Tuck in immediately.

DIMENSIONS:
The course is made up of six pairs of parallel cones, approximately 5-6 yards apart.
DESCRIPTION:
- Two players start at the same time from the first pair of cones, jog along the inside of the cones and do the various exercises on the way. After the last cone, they run back along the outside. On the way back, speed can be increased progressively as players warm up.
