Football/Soccer Session Plan Drill (Colour): Technical decision-making under perceived pressure

Technical decision-making under perceived pressure (10 mins)

Goal: Play the free man that is not pressuring you in possession

Set-up: 4 players facing inwards at each pole. 1 player inside diamond, facing outwards with ball. Poles set up in a diamond, 12 yards across from one-another

Rules:

1) Player with ball plays 1 touch around the pole with partner, remaining 3 ready to press from their pole.

2) Coach points to 2 of 3 players to press the ball when player(outside partner of 1 touch) shouts "turn"

3) On the shout, the 2 players press, the player in possession must find the free man and play the ball there.

4) Players organize themselves in same pattern with ball at a new spot. Never same player turning twice in a row.

4v4 Possession to penetrate (35 mins)

Goal: Conquer 4 corners in a single possession to win

Set-up: Total area size is 30x30. Each corner square is a 7x7 area. 4vs4 +2 neutrals

Rules:

1) In order to "conquer a square," the team in possession must connect a minimum of 2 passes using 3 players within the square.

2) 2 defender maximum per corner square

3) Ball is live until it leaves the outside area

Coaching Points

1) Use numerical advantage to stretch defending group before picking opportuities to claim a square

2) When the space is available, go quickly and support witht he third player early to get in and out before a 2nd defender joins

3) Create a central player or 2 at all times to allow for pivot away from pressure as it arrives
