Activation/Warm Up/Stretching (10 mins)

Activation:

1. Knee Series – 5x front to back / side to side 5x circles each direction

2. Squat Series – 5x with 2 second hold / 5x with rotation

3. Hip Series – 5x each direction (Open, Circle Front, Circle Back, Kick Back)

4. Plank Series:

a. Front Plank - 5x each exercise (Leg raises alternating, taps, stacks)

b. Side Plank - 5x each exercise (Dips, leg raises, taps, knee hold)

Warmup:

Organization:

6 outside cones - 15 yards by 8 yards

2 central cones - 4 yards from outside cones

Instructions:

Two lines of players, one per line

Exercises:

1. Up - Jog / Back - Jog

2. Repeat 1

3. Up - High Knees/Butt Kicks / Back - Jog

4. Up - Close Gate/Open Gate / Back - Jog

5. Up - Side Shuffle / Back - Side Shuffle

6. Up - Quad Stretch/Knee Pulls / Back - Forward Shuffle

7. Up A-Skip / Back - Shuffle 2 Backwards

8. Up - Groins / Back - Back Pedal 1/2 Way, Turn, Stride

9. Up - Scoops/Walking Calf Stretch / Back - Back Pedal 1/2 Way, Turn, Stride

10. Up - SL R Hops/Jog SL L Hops/Jog / Back - Stride Out

11. Up - High Intensity Jog - 25%/50%/75%/100% / Back - Slow Jog

12. Up - Sprint Up, Side Shuffle Across / Back - Jog

Y Passing Pattern (10 mins)

Organization:

4 cones in 'Y' shape

10 yards from start line to far cones 'C'

5 yards from start line to first cone 'B'

5 to 8 yards from cone 'B' to cones 'C'

Players line up at 'A' with ball

Instructions:

2 to 3 minutes on each variation. Rest between variations with dynamic stretch, Quick Feet Series (front to back, side to side, 1-2 hold, jumps)

Variation 1 - Pass, Lay-off, Pass, Dribble:

Players on each cone, remaining players line up at 'A' with one ball each.

Player at 'A' passes ball to player at 'B'

Player at 'B' passes ball back to player at 'A'

Player at 'A' passes ball to either player at 'C' (alternate sides).

Player at 'A' runs to 'B'

Player at 'B' runs to 'C'

Player receiving ball at 'C' dribbles ball to back of line at 'A'

Variation 2 - Pass, Turn, Combination:

Players on each cone, remaining players line up at 'A' with one ball each.

Player at 'A' passes ball to player at 'B', jogs to 'B'

Player at 'B' turns, passes ball to player at 'C' (alternate sides) and jogs to 'C'

Player at 'C' passes ball to player jogging to 'C'

Player jogging to 'C' passes ball one touch/1 - 2 back to player runngin from 'C' to back of line at 'A'

Session Overview:

Goal - All players and coaching staff have a clear understanding of how to defend a corner kick

Session Outline:

1. Introduction – Defensive Responsibilities of Team

(i) Be organized, communication, be the first to the ball, understand and be accountable to your responsibilities

2. Lecture – Goalkeeper, Near/Far Post Player & Zone Responsibilities

(i) Goalkeer - Organize and communicate, must win everything in their 6, if can not catch the ball, must be punched away

(ii) Near Post – Body positioning, adjustment with the flight of the ball

(iii) Far Post – Body positioning, adjustment with the flight of the ball

(iv) Near Post Zone – Win everything in your zone, must be fearless, good in the air

(v) Central Zone - Win everything in your zone, must be fearless. Should be most dominant player in the air.

(vi) Far Post Zone - Win everything in your zone, must be fearless, good in

the air

3. Near/Far Post & Zonal Demonstration

4. Apply in Team Setting

5. Lecture – Man-Marking Players & Outlet Player

(i) Man-Marking - Win your individual battle, your responsible for your mark,

touch tight

(ii) Outlet Player - Ball side, outside the 18, responsibility to be first to the ball cleared out of the 18, if goalkeepr wins it can counter attack through this player.

6. Man Marking & Outlet Player Demonstration

7. Apply in Team Setting

8. Lecture – Defending a Short Corner

(i) If the opposing team sends two players on the ball – Near post player and outlet player go out, far post becomes near post player, ZONAL PLAYERS DO NOT MOVE!
