SET UP:

-One team at the side of the grid and the other at the end

-Perform different movements across the grid while avoiding the other group

PROGRESSIONS/ALTERNATIVES:

-Which group can reach the far side first

-Tag an opponent on the way across to gain a point

-One/two taggers from each team standing in the middle to oppose their crossing. If tagged must perform a balance before continuing

KEY POINTS:

-Head up to see opposing team running across your path

-Stop/change of direction or speed to avoid/accelerate away from the opposing team

T1: Dribblers vs Passers

SET UP:

-A passing team at the side of the grid and a dribbling team at the end of the grid

-Pass/dribble to the far side without your ball being touched by another ball or opponent

PROGRESSIONS/ALTERNATIVES:

- If there is space to drive into, dribblers encouraged to take a bigger touch

- Dribblers can decide if they want to turn backwards

- Passers can move up and down the line to create a better angle/pass line

- Different types of pass can be used; different parts of the foot, aerial etc.

KEY POINTS:

- Good technique: ball close to foot/in total control, using different touches to manipulate it accordingly

- Dribble with head up to read opponents passes

- Stop and change direction in accordance to the Interferences

T2: Beating the defender

SET UP:

- The game remains the same layout but now a defender is added inside for both teams.

- Start with each defender having a bib, they can keep their score which is deducted from team's score at the end.

- When defending passing team, ball must be controlled before throwing a bib.

Progression

- If the defender on the dribbling team intercepts a pass then he must dribble to a side to gain a point.

- The defender on the passing team must tackle dribblers and complete a pass to a player on the passing team to gain a point

- On both occassions, ball is given back to original team.

POTENTIAL PROGRESSIONS:

- Go 5vs5 and increase amount of defenders per team

- Have a dribbling player without a ball so now there is a choice whether to dribble or pass.

- Let the players know their is a time limit, to increase tempo

- Limit touches for passing side

- Allow receivers to step inside the area to receive

KEY POINTS:

- Timing of forward movements

- Encourage players to turn to look for new solutions

SET UP:

- 4 goals, 5 vs 5 with two GKs

- Each team has two goals which they can score in

- Team who scores maintains possession

KEY POINTS:

- Reinforce dribbling technique, but now with a match related decision making process; when to pass, dribble and now shoot.

- Movement off the ball for a pass or to create space for a teammate to dribble

- When winning possession, having the awareness of which goal to attack

POTENTIAL PROGRESSIONS:

- Add/deduct the amount of footballs
