Too often we see defenders dive in desperate to make a tackle when the attacker is going nowhere.
We also see attackers not have the ability to get that extra yard space to get a shot away.
The above drill is simplistic in nature but has so many coaching points to get across. I do not allow the players to cut inside stating that in a match cutting inside will invariably be running directly in to traffic.
Defending - keep low, look out for bad touch, dont tackle unless you are 100% certain you will get the ball, force the attacker wide, always block the path to goal - at all times keep your hands behind your back.
Attacking - Slow down then burst, fake a cut inside to explode outside. Shoot across the keeper - do not shoot just for the sake of it when its obvious you will just rattle the defender with the ball.
No keepers required but if you have them use them. Simply blue attacks red (both sides can go at same time) - once blue has attacked then swap. Pair up your players then after 5 minutes or so swap sides so that they work both feet when shooting and both body position when blocking shots.
