Passing and moving session developing technical use of the mechanics of passing
Skills developed through competition and defending, and development of passing in a small-sided game.

Key Factors
· Skill practice - introducing opposition
· Passing, receiving
Organisation: As per Technical - everything remainsin place
Practice:
As per the technicalpractice. Players keep count of passescompleted in 60 seconds and coach notes down
All groups do a roundon each station to determine overall winner. The clock is the opposition and puts pressure on the players to performthe skill more quickly.
Observation/intervention/considerations:
· is the technical element being maintained with the increased tempo?
· stop the practice if there is continued mis-control of the ball toremind how to control and the mechanics
· Will you get more passes in by rushing and then chasing a loose ball, orby being controlled and accurate and keeping the ball?
Two rounds. Can groups beat their previous tally?

KeyFactors: Small-sided game
Organisation
· Cones for corner boxes (target)
· 1 ball in play (spares around the perimeter forcoach to keep the play live and tempo up
· 2teams
Small-sidedgame
Goalsscored by passing the ball to a team mate who receives it in the coned area andleaves it there. Most balls in each colour zone wins. Either time or when ballsrun out
Conditions:
· Blue must receive the pass in the blue squares, redsin the red.
· Players can only move into the score zone once apass is on to receive. They cannot wait in the score zone.
· After goal scored, the ball is reintroduced randomlyto any team by the coach and play continues.
Challenges
basedon observations introduce 3/4/5 passes before goal
Progressions/Regressions
· Increase/decrease the score zone size
· Reduce to one score zone for each team
Observations
· Are players using space to create passingopportunities? Group intervention
· Are players moving to create different angles tosupport the player on the ball? Group intervention
· Are players still performing the skill correctly?Individual intervention
Technical (15 mins)
Passing (moving)
Technical
Key Factors: Mechanics of passing. Incorporating movement
Organisation:
· 3 Coaches
· 12-14 players split 4 players x 3 groups (adapt depending on players attraining)
· half are bibbed
· 1 coned triangle (4 players)
· 1 small square (4 players
· 1 large square (4 players)
· 5 balls (warm-up would need 12+ balls so they can have 1 each)
Aim of the session
Practice passing/moving/receivingthrough repetition
Applying the mechanics in an unopposedand opposed scenario
Technical
3 groups asillustrated
Short pass zone / Pass and Movetriangle / Long or short pass zone
Short pass Zone:. Players to pass back andforth using the mechanics. Players tomove left or right after pass and return to the middle for the return pass.
Progressions: Can they use their weaker foot, 2touch to 1 touch. Ask players to callright or left or cone colour and make their partner run around it.
Pass and Move triangle: Playerspass and move in a triangle. Double up on the first cone. Pass. Follow pass
Progression:Players can decide to change direction of the pass / move to one touch pass
Short or Long Passing zone:Playersvary short and long passing. Players todecide when to come short and when to retreat back to receive
Rotategroups so all players get a turn on each zone
Mechanics
· Passing
· Look at target
· Eye on ball
· Angle of approach
· Non kicking foot alongside ball in comfortable position
· Strike centre of ball with chosen surface
· Firm ankle
· Follow through to target
Observation/interventionconsiderations:
Based on observations, demonstrate how to receive the ball andopen body to be ready to perform the mechanics and give yourself space to moveaway from your marker.
Are players communication the long or short pass.
Are players communicating a change of direction in the trianglezone?
Are players performing the technical element correctly.
Coaching position: One coach eitherside outside the practice perimeter moving to observe mechanics and all aspectsof technique and practice
Is the practice area appropriatelysized? Consider fatigue, opportunity toapply the technique in the space laid out. Based on observations, increase or decrease area size.
Monitoring pairs are the abilitylevels matched fairly. Provide feedback on technique and praising / encouraginggood technique
