Game model: Combining in wide areas
Technical gestures: First touch, directional control, dribbling, passing, crossing
Principles of play:
Angles and distance of support (outside back and outside mid playing on different lines)
Numerical Superiority: Creation of 2v1 and 3v2 situations
Overload-to-isolate: Drawing defense in then quickly changing point of attack to isolated 1v1 or 2v2 situation
Overlap, Underlap, and Give-and-go: Ways to accelerate the game and combine to unbalance the defense
What (soccer problem): We are having a hard time creating goalscoring chances from wide situations
Why: We are not supporting enough in wide areas to create overloads or combining quickly enough to unbalance the defense
How (do we solve it): Look for situations where we have or can create 2v1 and 3v2 in the wide areas
Where: In the middle to attacking third of the field in the half-space and wide channels
When: When we are able to progress down one side, or when we are able to change the point of attack quickly (overload-to-isolate)
Positional roles:
4 and 5: providing depth and support from behind
2 and 3: Providing support at a different angle to 7 and 11, being able to recognize moments to underlap or overlap and create 2v1 situation
7 and 11: Providing support at a different angle to 2 and 3, being able to beat opponent in 1v1 or being able to combine quickly around opposition
8 and 10: Supporting on the ball near side to create the triangle, occasionally running out of midfield on an underlap
6: Providing depth and being in a position to CPOA
9: Providing height to attack, showing up to offer for a 1-2 if near side ACM is not present, occasionally offering a run from inside-to-out in the wide channel
