Organization: -15 x 20 area.
- 2 red vs. 2 blue.
-1 ball.
-1 large goal for attacking team (blue). 1 small goal for defending team (red).
-Swtich roles after few minutes.
Instructions: -Red (A) dribbles the ball and stops it in front of blue (C). (A) must touch the post before then joining the game.
-Two blue players (C and D) look to attack and score in small goal.
-(B) defends and looks to delay attack until A gets back to help.
-Red team are looking to win ball and counter to big goal. P
-Play until a goal is scored or ball goes out of bounds.
Coaching Points: Role of B (delay):
- Deny direct penetration (goal)
- Quick footwork
- When/when to delay (numbers down)
- When to step to win the ball (poor touch, out of feet)
Role of A (recover):
- Speed of recovery
- Where to recover to (most direct route to get goal side)
- Organization when recovered (who presses, who covers)
- Communication between two
- Transition to attack if ball is won.
When both A and B are in position:
-Players should be in correct defensive stance; knees slightly bent to get low, hips at an angle (not always square), ready to run backwards and to change direction, eyes on ball.
-Use foot closest to ball to poke ball away/make tackle.
Progressions:

-2 v 2 each turn.
-1 ball, 1 large goal, 1 small goal.
Instructions: -Players will play 2v2 games.
-First team to score is the winner.
-Blue team will start with ball, must score in large goal.
-Red team must try to win ball, score in 2 small goals out wide.
Coaching Points: -Good defensive positioning;
-Knees slightly bent.
-Hips at angle, not always square.
-On toes, ready to run backwards and change direction.
-Eyes on target (the ball).
-Use foot closest to ball to poke ball away/make tackle.
Progressions: -Add extra defender to make game harder for attackers.
-Or add extra attacker to force defenders to cover more ground.

-2 teams, even number of players.
-1 ball.
-2 equal sized goals.
Instructions: -Normal game rules.
Coaching Points: -Look for players to utilize defending technique, but do not interrupt game.
Progressions: -No progressions, free play for the players to enjoy.
Warm-Up
Organization: -15 x 20 area.
-Two teams, equal number of players.
-Split into pairs, 1 player from each team together.
Instructions: -Defending players (red) must try to tag attacking players (blue) on the knee/shin guard.
-Every time a blue player is tagged, that is a point for the red team.
-Switch roles after 1 minute.
-Team with most points after 2 minutes, is the winner.
Coaching Points: -Game is used to get players used to getting into a natural position when defending.
-Hips at an angle, not always square.
-On tip toes, not on heels.
-Knees slightly bent.
-Eyes always on the target. Woudl normally be the ball, in this case it will be the knee/shinguard area of the oppsoing player.
Progressions: -Attacking players with a ball, now defenders must try to touch their soccer ball for a point.
