The focus of this session is to try and play wide and what to do when we do play wide. I want to have an emphisis on the players to play wide and create space for the wingers to play with.
Learning Objectives:
- Create space on the flanks
- Variety of crosses
- Deliver at the correct time
I have decided to use the Under 11s as the age I would like to work with. There is going to be a total of 16 players all with a moderate level of ability.
I will aim to have a ball rolling time of around 75-80%.
Bullseying - I will choose the four wingers to bullseye. I will want them to try and use a range of different deliveries for the attackers.

There will be two groups of 8 with 1 goalkeeper, two wingers and two groups of attackers. The aim is to score more goals than the other group to avoid a forfeit.
Steps:
1. Waves of attacks with groups passing the ball out wide and the wingers crossing the ball for the attackers to attack and try and score.
2. 1 touch finish
3. Wingers work on a variety of crosses
This session will be done in 4 blocks of 4 minutes with a 1 minute intervention inbetween each block.
Progressions:
- Add a Defender from the other group to make it harder
- Add a defender to where the wide channel meaning cross is harder
- Create an area fir wingers to cross into (Double Points)
-Winger from opposite side to cross attack back post
Regressions:
- No wide defender if too difficult to cross
- Take away the defender in the middle if no goal success
Interventions:
Fly By: Can you check your run so you meet the ball rather than waiting for it?
Fly By: What cross would you use for each situation?
Fly By Q&A: Whats the best way for the winger to know where to cross the ball?
Team Meeting Drive By: How can you outwit your defenders? How will you move or How will you position yourself.

Whole Activity - Small Sided Game (Random Practice) - Yellow Cones (HIGH Intensity)
This is very similar to the first part of this WholePartWhole session and its technically not a small sided game due to there being 8v8 however, on the pitch there is only 6v6 and the wide players act as bounce players for both teams.
Equipment:
- Yellow Cones
-Balls in goal (Quick Restart)

2-3-0 v 2-3-0 (How do you defend against a team with a similar formation? (Tactical))

2. Aim is to pass the ball wide and create space for the wingers to deliver the ball and try to score a goal.
3. Normal game rules apply.
This session will be done in 4 blocks of 4 minutes with a 1 minute rest after each block. This gives a Work to Rest Ratio of 4:1.
Scoring System:
1 Point = Normal Goal
2 Points = Successful Cros (No Goal)
3 Points = Indirect cross goal
5 Points = Scoring direct from the cross
Progressions:
- Defender in wide channel
- Cross to opposition winger to score (Double Points)
- 10 second limit to play wide (Technical/Tactical improvement of ball speed)
- Defenders trying to stop the crosses
Interventions:
Fly By: What decisions will you make to score? (Build up the play? Play opposite way? Attack Centrally?) This will improve the Social side of the session as it gets teams deciding how to play and communicate more.
