At least two balls for each keeper. Scramble the balls around a designated area with about 5 yards between them.
1st progression:
Keppers start jogging around the designated area, when the coach whistles each kepper sprints to a ball and gets set for a shot right in front of the ball. Repeat about 5 times.
Coaching points:
-Stress the change of speed between the jog and going to find the ball. Keepers dont run long distances but short and quick ones.
- Good goalkeeper position is one of the biggest mistakes in young keepers but is also one of the easiest to correct. Standing on your toes, knees slightly bended, shoulders forward, and hands ready.
-It is a warm up excersice, during the jogging keppers should start moving their arms, doing high knees, buttkickers, etc.
2nd progression: keppers keep jogging and when the coach whistles keppers find a ball jump twice from side to side and then explode to a different ball and get in keeper possition in front of it. Repeat 5 times.
coaching points:
-Change of speed
-Good goalkeeper position
-Jumps should be quick but make sure the players are jumping over the ball. overral athletism is key for a keeper.
3rd progression: keepers start jogging, when the coach whistles, keepers go touch a ball and shuffle to the next one, finishing in gk position. 3 to one side, 3 to the other side.
Coaching points:
-change of speed
-good goalkeeper position
-the shuflle should be small quick steps and feet should not touch.
-as they shuffle they should try to keep their knees bend as if they could face a shot at any point.
3rd progression: keepers jogging, when coach whistles, they run to a ball bend over and scoop the ball up without going to the ground. Repeat 5 times
Coaching points:
-change of speed
-the ball should end in a "basket" made by the arms and the chest.
-one knee goes down but doesnt touch the ground. Avoid leaving a gap between the legs.
-their torso should lean forward but what goes down is the knees not the shoulders.
4th progression: keepers jogging, when coach whistles, keepers go down for the ball, scoop it up and follow through their movement to the ground. repeat 5 times
Coaching point:
-change of speed
-ball should be in the "basket", not touching the ground.
