Description

With this session there is a need to work on getting wide players confident at what the do, and by this there is good decision making to be had. There is the right time to make a cross, the right type of cross and even if making the cross is the right decision to make as when there is no one available then maybe dribbling it in towards goal is a better opportunity. If you have pace in your attacking midfield team as I do ( Mark C) then you should play to your strengths and capitilise on it.If you don't then can the full backs be the support and also have the ability to deliver and attacking option.

Overload in the middle in the red favour to try force the ball wide.

Offsides are in play.

If the Reds win the ball can they find blue 6 with a pass to claim a point.

If Blues can score of a direct wide assist then 3 points, otherwise 1 point

Why

I want to see success and repetition of the ball out wide.

I want the wide players to have a bit of space to play in to increase confidence.

I want a the 7 or 11 to have 1v1, and be only 1v1.

I want to see variety in type of delivery, some high, some driven, some bouncing. learn what the defenders don't like and where are your strikers strengths, floor or head.

Technical

Receiving, Movement into space, type / pace of pass, type / pace of cross, speed, dribbling

Tactical Trigger - when 7/11 has dropped away from the full back and as wide as he can, to receive a ball low or on the ground that he can take on his back foot with an open body shape to allow him to advance directly towards the opposition full back.

On the ball - any of blue players are looking to get the ball out to the 2 / 3 to pass forward or the 7 /11 in space to open up a run at the full back. The delivery of the cross will be for a call from 9 wanting a ball to the far post to try and head the ball goalwards or a pass will depend on the call from 10 calling for a short ball on the floor towards the near post to hit first time with a flick to change the flight of the ball goalwards or with a full connection if on his favoured foot with open body shape and space in front to hit it.

Around the ball - the 2 or 3 respectively need to provide support in case an option is required. 8 is tracking the movement with a run towards the edge of the box and and be an option for a ball inside. 10 is also making a run away from the 7/11 in order to open space in behind the defending full back for 7/11 to run into.

Away from the ball - 4 is sitting off the back of 8 with a forward movement  anticipating a clearance.  The opposite wide player is matching the movement of the ball, incase the delivered ball is over hit and needs to be returned quickly, with his full back supporting the advance in play. 9 is looking to read the flight of the ball and take an opposite run to 10 to try and upset the defenders tracking.

Technical

Receiving, Movement into space, type / pace of pass, type / pace of cross, speed,

Tactical Trigger - the 7/11 receive the ball but is closed quickly by the opposition full back looking for a support ball backwards. Plays the ball back to the 2/3 on the floor with space in front to adjust feet for favoured foot to deliver a cross in to 9, if no angle is available to pass strongly into 10.

On the ball - the 7 or 11 in possession and are under pressure and do not have the ability / space to turn, so release the ball to the full back. The full back has a clean sight of the attacking 9 /10 and can see the opportunity to deliver the ball first time. If the front two are not reading this, then secure the ball and advance with a delivery on the second touch.

Around the ball - 2/3 needs to keep up with play to be the outlet, likewise the 8 should demanding the ball in short if he has the space to play. 10 may now want to come short for a ball into feet for him to go 1v1 or set for 8 to run in onto or return the ball back to 11 who has continued to communicate his support.

Away from the ball - 4 is sitting of the back of 8 with a forward movement  anticipating a clearance.  The opposite wide player is matching the movement of the ball, incase the delivered ball is over hit and needs to be returned quickly, with his full back supporting the advance in play. 9 is looking to read the flight of the ball and take an opposite run to 10 to try and upset the defenders tracking.
