OBJECTIVE: Improve the fundamentals of goalkeeping, placing an emphasis on SET POSITION and timing while using proper technique & quick footwork to get behind ball in order to cover more ground. By the end of this session we want the GK to understand the importance of the set position and the role it plays in shot stopping. GK begins off in a isloated controlled environment focused on technical work progressing to recover saves/ live shot stopping. Coach will place emphasis on SET POSITION and proper FOOTWORK.

INSTRUCTIONS: GK runs with the ball in hand and drops off ball at cone prior to dealing with service from S. GK must sprint to cone and bend down when dropping ball off at cone.
PROGRESSION:
Round 1: Start on post
Round 2: Start on cone

A. Low ball (Near Post)
B. High ball
C. Top hand save

INSTRUCTIONS: GK Shuffle crosstep backpedal shuffle and set for shot from S1 who is around 12-18 yards away. GK then sprints across 6 yrd box to get set from shot from S2.

INSTRUCTIONS: GK uses footwork to get through cones then deals with low shot from S1. After initial save. GK then reloads as quickly as possible and uses a crostep to get in ball line with S2 in order to get set and deal with shot to opposite direction.
*Do proper low ball warm up before having GK go full speed. EX: start from knees or hip

INSTRUCTIONS: GK does 45 degree pop then gets set in square to handle a low shot from S1. GK then recovers as quick as possible to deal with shot #2. S1 will then yell 'fire' to S2 who will look to shoot ball from B angle.

INSTRUCTIONS:

GK Starts with heels on Goaline in SET position. Coach says "go" GK then closes space down and waits for CUE of the strikers body language approaching the ball which triggers GK to time SET position. If Coach does NOT SHOOT, GK gets SET on top of box,then uses footwork to get back to goalline.
HANDLING: Contour/Basket/Smother
REP COUNT: 4 Sets @ 6 ball per GK = 1 Set (depending on numbers)
*Last round should be decision making on using correct handling technique. Add COLOR to it and say "GO" for goalkeeper to set then say COLOR either yellow or red. GK listens to command then shuffles and gets SET on ball line again to deal with shot from Coach.
