Progression Layout
- A 'box' to be placed in centre of the area, 10 yards x 10 yards.
- This is the holding midfielder zone.
- 1 touch in this zone
This is to encourage quick decision making & high tempo play.
Coaching Points
- Switch the play using no. 6
- Half turn
- Scan early & make decision
- Either play back wide on recieving or let ball run across body to switch it!
- Protect the ball with body

The substitute game
Play a normal game with players trying to keep possession and score goals.
Players must look to use the ball intelligently and not hang onto it allowing opponents the chance to tackle them.
The player that loses the ball is substituted!! The idea being players dont want to be the one subbed.
Play carries on while the substitution happens meaning players must be focused!!
Progerssion
Player has 5 seconds to win ball back in order to avoid substitution
Exercise (30 mins)
Objectives
- Be able to keep possession by recycling the ball including using the goalkeeper to 'switch play'
- Make quick decisions on the ball
- Create as many options to the person the ball as possible, using different angled runs
The Session
Red team is to play out from the back with the aim of scoring in either mini goal... Blue team must press and stop them doing so!
Coaching Points
- Make the pitch big... creating space for self & team
- Double movements to create space by dragging defender away
- Use spare man (likely to be goalkeeper)
- Communication (Verbal & Non-Verbal)
-Transition Quickly when ball is lost
