Phase 2 (20 mins)

Possession to Small Goals

This is basically a 3v1 possession square with all the same rules as always, but the attacking players have 2 goals to play in to. In order to score attacking players have to stop the ball in between the yellow cones, and the game continues. The idea is to switch the ball back and forth and create angled passes away from the goals to create space near the goals.

Coaching Points

-Dont force the issue

-Possess until there is a good chance to score

-Switch the play to get the defender moving away from one of the goals

-Give the player that score angles to pass

Phase3 (20 mins)

3v3 to goal + a number 6

Players play 3v3 to goal. Attacking team has the option to drop the ball back to the number 6 in order to retain possession. The 6 has to shift from box to box depending on the location of the ball. As the ball switches play the 6 shifts with the ball to create an easier angle to receive a back pass.

If the defending team wins possession of the ball they can play into the number 6 and if they do they switch sides and play to goal.

Coaching Points:

-6 needs to shift with the ball

-If the attacking team is dropping the ball back the switch is probably a good option

-Remind the attacking team to use the back pass

Coaching Points:

-Use the 6 to help keep possession

-Dont force the issue. Possess.

-If the attack fizzles out recycle the attack

- Drop and Switch
