Warm-up/Semi Opp (20 mins)

Organization: 10x20 yrd grids (3 to a grid). mini goals at one end.

Instructions:

P1:

-Player in yellow (defender in P2) starts with the ball on the side of the mini goal. He takes a touch in either direction to begin (gray arrow = dribble)

-At his first touch (A) the player in the middle shuffles across to the opposite side of where the player in yellow goes (A), the furthest player goes to the same side as the yellow player (A).

-(1)Yellow player passes across to the middle player

-(2) Middle player turns and passes up and across to the third player who takes a touch forward

-(3) Third player passes back to the middle

-(4) Recieves a pass back from the middle player

-(5) Takes a touch and shoots at the mini pugg goal

P2:

- 1 v 1 +1= Red vs Blue with green acting as a neutral. Neutral cannot score.

- Play 1 or 2 minute games then switch the neutral.

Coaching Points:

P1:

-Pass to the middle players back foot (why?)

-Get a good first touch out of your feet

-Soft pass back infront of player running forward

-Can you set them up for one time finish?

-Body shape

P2:

-When can we take the defender on? When can we use our midfielder as help?

-As the midfielder do we ALWAYS pass back? Can you use them as a decoy?

-Do you need a complete lane with a sign saying you can shoot? Or can you manipulate the ball quickly to get a rapid shot off?

- How can your movement better set up space for your teammate to occupy?

Progressions:

* In P1 you can make it so the player starting the progression (Red in this case) goes and pressures the two others (creating a 2v1)

3v2 > 2v1 > 1v1 (20 mins)

Organization: 3v2 to 2v1 to 1v1; two counterattack goals are attacked by the defenders for the 2v1.

Instructions: start with 3v2 towards big goal, the player who shoots at the goal (and scores or goes out of play) becomes the 1 defender in the 2v1 the defenders have towards the counter attack goals. The defender who shoots at (and makes or misses) the little goals becomes the defender in the 1v1 towards the big goal. After that, start back with a 3v2 with the ball being played from the defenders.

Coaching Points:

* Recognize when there is space to shoot

* Recognize where there is space to move into

* Ability to transition quickly

* Recognize opportunity to use teammate as a decoy and take on the defender or to suck the defender in and release the ball on to your teammate.

* Can you use your teammates as a decoy or can you act as the decoy to allow space for your mate to shoot.
