Warm Up (10 mins)

Organization

- Players in pairs line up opposite eachother in the middle of a 20x30 box

- One ball between the pair

- Pairs stand around 3 yards apart

Activity

- The players are numbered 1-2, and stand opposite each other on their toes

- On the coaches call of a number the number that he calls spins and attempts to get to the line behind them before the opposite number can beat them to it.

- Whichever player makes it first gets the point

- To make it more fun for the players you can have them starting in different positions, or can only use certain movements to get to the lines.

Progression

- Each player starts with a ball and when the numbers is called they have to dribble to the line. The opposite number can get 1 point by beating them to the line or go for 2 by kicking their ball off their oppositions ball.

Progression

- When the players number is called they attempt to get to their partners line with the ball. The partner must leave their ball and attempt to steal from their team mate.

Emphasis

- Quick reactions

- Fun

- Awareness when dribbling

- Changes of speed and direction

- Competition

Session 1 (15 mins)

Organization

- Create a triangle of players 2 yards from goal with the point closest to the goal

- Player 1 will start with the ball

- Player 2 will start without the ball

Activity

- Player 1 will start with the ball and play in to player 3

- As the ball is played, player 2 will make a diagonal run across and receive the ball to the left of player 3

- Player 3 will bounce the ball in to player 2 who will drive in to the space and get the strike away

- Player 1 will follow the shot in to pick up any rebounds

Make it competitive with groups or players going against each other.

Progression

- Player 1 starts with the ball and the shot becomes left footed

- Player 1 plays in to player 3 then overlaps player 2. Player 3 plays to player 2 who plays in to player 1's path.

- Player 2 plays in to player 1 then overlaps. Player 1 plays in to player 3 who then plays in to the path of 2 on the overlap.

Emphasis

- Quality of pass

- Quality of finish

- Timing of movement

- Goals!

Session 2 (15 mins)

Organization

- Place a rebounder centrally 20 yards from goal

- Place half the players 10 yards from the rebounder further away from goal

- Place the other half of players 15 yards to the right of the goal laterally and 5 yards up the field

- The players close to the rebounder have the ball

Activity

- The players close to the rebounder will play a pass off the lower rebounder and receive the ball back

- Once the ball returns the player is looking to play a pass in to the goal quickly

- The players in the other group are allowed to move as soon as the ball hits the rebounder

- Their role is to try and block the pass before it can hit the net

- As a coach you may need to adjust the distances to get the most out of the practice. The idea is that we have just won the ball and we are trying to play the ball forwards quickly.

Progression

- Use the other side of the rebounder so that they have to receive the ball in the air before they can play the pass.

The objective here is to have the players think about the first touch to set up the quick pass, have an understanding of where the threat is coming from and to get the ball forwards quickly. This can all be focused on while making it a fun game also.

Session 3 (15 mins)

Organization

- Two teams start 20 yards from goal in single file lines

- All of the balls start with one of the coaches next to the goal

- A player or one of the coaches is the GK

Activity

 - Each player will receive two opportunities to score, the first will be a ball passed to them outside the area where they have two touches to score

- The second ball will be a first time finish from inside the area

- If they score they do not score they are out of the game and step away from their line

- If they score 1 they return to their line to play again

- If they score 2 they return to their line to play again and can either choose to knock out and opposition player or bring a team mate back in to the game that has been knocked out.

- Team with the last player standing wins

This session looks at first touch, striking technique, decision making of what technique to use and FUN.
