Pressure-Cover-Balance (15 min)
Session Objective:To improve defensive unit play along back line
Set Up: Server A plays ball to wide Green player B. Orange 1 closes down, Orange 2, 3 and 4 then move to provide cover & balance.
Then switch amd play to C. Orange 4 closes then 3,2,1 cover/balance. Repeat switching to get back four to move in unison.
Coaching Points: Nearest man closes down to apply pressure. Speed to close then brakes on. Jockey & Delay. Next player provides cover, then balance. Angled position to see man and ball.

Pressure-Cover- Balance Midfield/Back Lines (15 min)
Session Objective:To improve defensive unit play through midfield and back lines.
Set Up: Coach plays ball to wide Green player B. Orange 1 closes down, Orange 2-8 then move to provide cover & balance
Then switch amd play to B. Orange 4 closes then all Orange players move across. Balance off. Repeat switching to get midfield four (1,2,3,4) and back four (5,6,7,8) to move in unison.
Key Factors:
Nearest man closes down to apply pressure. Speed to close then brakes on. Immediate pressure, jockey & delay.
Next player cover & balance
Angled position to see man and ball.

Wide Set Plays (15 min):
Set up:
-11,3 stand in the start position
-9 will loop around the ball of all the other onrushing attackers and crash the 6rd box.
-4 is also available for a quick short pass to shoot direct or take a touch and strike on goal.
Instructions:
-10,3,11 now combine to deliver the ball. If a player follows 10 then the defending team now has 3 players outside of the box.
-7 holds the edge of the area and looks for the rebound or cleared ball.
Coaching Points:
-Options, inswinging, outswinging short pass from 3 to 11 to drive the line and cross on the ground or in the air. Short pass to 4 to shoot (if unmarked)
-3,10,6,5 should be good in the air

Set Up
Set-up a pitch suitable for a SSG 6 v 6.
Split players into two teams.
Teams must have every outfield player in their opponent’s half to score. This forces players to move up and down the field throughout.
