Team Shape: In Possession
When the team has possession of the ball the attacking concept needs to be simple/ The basic Attacking Principles are: Spread out to make the field as wide as possible & Push high to make the field as long as possible.
With the ball at feet players are encoouraged to dribble into space and to circulate the possession of the ball around and across the field. Stretch Out & Cut Through the Opposition!
Player/Unit Responsabilities:
GK - Encourage the keeper to stand near or on the edge of the area and not back on their line. The goalkeeper can act as another defender to sweep up any through passes from opposition.
RD/LD - The Defenders are encouraged to push up the field when the team has the ball - this will catch any lazy opposition forwards offsides. They can help to swtich the play from side to side.
CM - In possession the Central Midfielder needs to distribute the ball quickly from side to side as well as into the forwards. If they can make runs forwards to support the forwards great...but they must be ready to get back!
R/LM - The Right/Left Midfielders need to keep the field as wide as possible. Try to stay wide to receive the ball to feet & in 1v1 situations don't be afraid to dribbling, cross & shoot at goal!
FW - The forwards need to try and stay as high up the field as possible. Trust your team mates to get you the ball. In and around the penalty box don't be afraid to dribble and shoot at goal as well as look for team mates in better positions. Your first thought needs to be...GOAL!!

Team Shape: Out of Possession
When the team losses possession of the ball there needs to be a "jump start" reaction. We want to try and win the ball back as quickly as possible. The basic defending principles are: upon losing the ball high pressure is placed by surrounding players, if unable to do so the remaining players begin to drop back and slide in field to make the field as small/compact as possible.
Player/Unit Responsability:
GK - The Goalkeeper begins to retreat back into goal ready for opposition attacks. Communicate with defenders!
R/LD - The Defenders must begin to drop back and keep an eye on both the ball and opposition attackers to mark. Defenders do not leave their positions and work together up and down the field as well as side to side.
CM - The Central Midfielder must begin to drop back and stay in central area of the field. Try to stay in central areas to stop opposition dribbling and passing straight through the middle of the team.
R/LM - The Right & Left Midfielders must drop back and cover the wide areas of the field. If the ball goes past you, its important to track back to help the defenders.
FW - When losing the ball the Forward are encouraged to work together as a team to apply high pressure on the opposition defenders. Can you try to force a mistake and steal the ball!?
