Organization:
- As shown (2 teams of 2, Blue/Green vs. Black)
(6 players) per area
Instructions:
Start this activity as indicated.
- Green (3) passes to Green (2) to start activity.
- Attackers (Green) attempt to score in the PUG 2v1 for 3 pts.
- The defender cannot leave his line until the initial pass is made and must win the ball above the red line (as shown).
- If defender wins possession, he attempts to pass/dribble through one of the corner goals (red cones)
- Once a team scores or ball leaves the area, next group starts.
- Players return to same line. Rotate after 3-4 min (3 rounds with each team defending once)
Coaching Points:
Encourage players to be creative with runs/movements- Most will attack in a straight line, show them an overlap or something different to encourage different thoughts.
1st attacker
- Quality of first touch and small touches vs. larger touches. (smaller as we approach defenders/larger as we get past)
- Reading defender's body position to make a decision to dribble or pass.
- Encourage players to be selfish when defender takes away the pass.
- Weight and accuracy of pass.
- Quality of decoying technique. (body feint/scissors/etc)
- Next movement after playing pass.
2nd attacker
- Timing of run
- Communication (for pass or to help decoy)
- Quality of touch to set up shot or to score first time.
Progressions: (make harder for attackers)
- Defender leaves on pass.
- Time limit to score.
Regressions: (make easier for attackers)
- Defender can't leave until player 2 takes his first touch- Defender is passive and cannot win the ball
