Description

Session with AFC Womens 1st Team.

 

First half hour working with GKs to prepare for integration before 1 hour of integrated training with GKs, CAM, Wide midfielders and Strikers focussing on 1V1s and angled finishing.

 

Focus for GKS:

  • Starting positioning and readjustment when playing out and losing position
  • Starting positioning and decision making on through balls (Whether to come or drop off; choice of technique to make save)
  • Awareness of triggers which can help to select the most effective technique for the situation i.e. recovering defender, weight of pass, quality of first touch, strikers head dropping to strike
  • Improve awareness of different 1v1 scenarios that may arise based on the movement of opponents

Technical Practice

Set up/Organisation/Description:

  • 1 x 7aside goal with flat marker gate in front
  • 2x mini goals angled to sides of goal

Instructions/Explanations:

  • Flexibility work on 1v1 technical shapes before starting technical practice i.e. narrow block/ spread (5 mins(
  • GK starts at red gates and drops off for pass back from central feeder (CDM)

  • GK distributes to full back. FB becomes opposition winger who then attacks mini goal in 1v1 situation

 

Progression(s)

  • Drop for strike then distribute via roll to FB for second phase (If GK parries or conceeds then coach plays second pass to full back for second phase
  • Coach can attack central goal to encourage diving at feet/ spread save
  • Winger starts behind coach and reacts to chase down through ball when coach passes to a side

Game-Related Practice

Set up/Organisation/Description:

  • 2 mini goals with 1 GK in (Doubled up as striker)
  • 1 CAM (Coach)
  • 1 GK in 11 aside goal

Instructions/Explanations:

  • CAM can attack 2 mini goals
  • CAM can play through ball for striker (GK in mini goal) to spin in behind and attack main goal in 1v1 situation

Progression(s)

  • CAM can link with striker to combine and create 1v1 i.e striker drops deep to receive ball and CAM runs beyond defensive line

Integrated Practice 1v1s

Set up/Organisation/Description:

  • 4 mannequins to represent a compact back 4 that have lost possession
  • 1 fullback (opposition winger out of possession)
  • 1 striker (occupying 2 CBs)
  • 1 CDM (opposition CAM out of possession)

Instructions/Explanations:

  • Full back plays back pass to GK who then aims to play through opposition into CDM
  • CDM then becomes opposition CAM (due to intercepted pass/ loss of possession in defensive third); fullback then becomes opposition winger
  • CAM, Striker, Winger can then combine to create different 1v1 scenarios (Some passages of play suggested below)
  • If GK gathers ball they start transition aiming to distribute to goals either side 

     

     

    Passage of Play 1: 

  • CAM plays through ball for striker (playing on the shoulder or running between CBs or CB and full back or winger (maintaining width wide and cutting behind fullback/ curving run between fullback and CB) who have ran in behind defence 

     

     

    Passage of Play 2:

  • CAM links with winger or striker and then plays through ball for 3rd man run i.e. links with striker and plays winger through

     

     

    Passage of Play 3:

  • CAM links with striker who has dropped deep to pull CB out of position. Striker can then play CAM who has run beyond into space for 1v1

     

     

    Passage of Play 4:

  • CAM plays striker for first time pass round the corner for winger running in behind

Integrated Practice Angled Finishing

Set up/Organisation/Description:

  • 1 striker back to goal (mannequin as CB)
  • 1 CAM and 1 wide midfielder inverted (due to AFC Women's playing style)

Instructions/Explanations:

  • GK plays out into CAM (becomes CDM for opposition)
  • CDM can then link with inverted winger, CAM or play direct to striker to create scenarios for angled strike
