Part 1 (10 mins)

Work in Groups of 3.

 

The ball can only ever travel between cones A and B. The ball starts opposite the only cone unoccupied by a player. When you pass the ball you then run to the cone that is unoccupied by running round the outside of the square. The third player will then come in and offer for the ball at the cone that has just been vacated to offer for a pass to the player on the ball. The ball will then be played to him and the second player who has played a pass will now mirror the exact same process.

 

3 sets of 2 minute work. The challenge is for the players to be more fluid and react to the space quicker. Also aim for the ball to never stop rolling.

Part 2 (10 mins)

Here we are passing the ball into a target player or Goalkeeper if available (Work on distribution).

 

Player passes the ball in on his right foot and runs around the nearest pole and out to the other queue. Everyone does this once. Then everyone plays passes on their left foot and runs to the nearest pole.

Then everyone clips a pass in on their right foot for the Keeper to catch and throw out and runs round the first pole. Lastly everyone does it on their left foot with a clipped pass and then run round the first pole. Then everyone repeats the process but running to the second pole. And finally they repeat it again but at the third pole.

 

Do two sets of these. The challenge for the players is to be as close or to even beat their first time. (Don't tell them this until they have done the first one so there is more chance of them working to their full potential for both)

Part 3 (20 mins)

Here we have a three part session.

 

1.) Small Rondo. Objective is to be the team that can put together the most passes. Focus is on 1 v 1 defending and attacking. Desire has to be to get away from your marker to make yourself always available for a pass. Winning team is the team that keeps it for the most passes.

 

2.) Quick feet through the cones and then run to the pole and move off to one side and offer for a pass. Play a one-two and then move back behind the pole and offer on the other side to play a one-two that side. Then repeat the process but the server throws the ball higher so the working player can volley it back instead. Server then leaves the ball there for the working player to run to and pick up while he runs to the starting position so he can go through the cones and pole. Team that completes the most runs wins.

 

3.) Attacking and Defending exercise. Ball starts at the half way line. Three players start between the halfway line and the 18 yard box. To start the attackers will run to the centre circle and offer for the ball to be passed to them while the defender runs to the 18 yard line and then back towards the attackers. They then go and attack 2 v 1 against the defender. Offsides are in play. Play to an end. If defenders win it that classes as an end. The two defenders starting on the halfway line can begin their recovery runs the second the first attacker takes his touch towards the goal. Winning team is the side with the most goals. Each section will be played for 5 minutes.

 

At the end of 5 minutes the losing team will do a Fitness Forfeit.

 

When they finish everyone from every group will sprint up to the next activity.
