Description

Pro Football Training- Club alliance session for Dunsborough Junior Soccer Club U8's

Session focussed on running with the ball, also including turning with the ball and 1v1s, 2v2s

If possible two identical 20 x 15 pitches set up as shown, but will work with just one. Ball each to maximise contact time for players.

Session Structure:

1: Two fun little warm up games to get the kids moving, turning etc, also involves some competition

2: Technical part of session working on the main theme of running with the ball, unnopossed practice but using interference to test the kids abilities

3: 1v1 and 2v2 games to further explore the theme in an opposed environment

4: Always finish with small sided games to allow the kids to practice what they've learnt and to have some fun, not too structured in the games, let them play.

Warm Ups (10 mins)

Blob Tag Game

All players in designated area depending on age, two players link arms (the blob) they try and tag the other players. As players are tagged they join the chasers and the blob grows. Once 4 players have been tagged can split into two blobs. Once everyone is tagged can repeat

Simon Says Line Game

Coach calls hand on hips, toes, eyes etc just like simon says.

When coach calls "ball" its a race between the two players to grab the ball and turn and run to the end line before getting tagged. Count scores and repeat however many times wanted

RWTB Technical practice (15 mins)

Players have ball each, both teams in seperate halves with middle area marked out using flat discs/cones

Players dribble around area, lots of touches on the ball. Can perform different little tricks. (step-overs, Maradona turns, Ronaldo chops, Cruyff turns etc)

Focus on keeping the ball as close as possible and head up without running into each other

On coaches call/ whistle

Players are to swap sides with the other team as quickly as possible without running into ech other

(Can make this a race to get your whole team across first)

Progressions:

1: On whistle players dribble to other half and then turn and get back into own half before other team

2: On whistle dribble ball into other half and all go and score

3: Can add a defender or two into the middle zone to make it a bit harder in getting across

Coaching points:

Focus on keeping ball close to feet, head up

Lots of little touches when in congested areas

Bigger touches when running into space with the ball

1v1 with Turns (10 mins)

Red dribbles out and performs turn after crossing halfway, turn is the trigger for the blue defender to enter 1v1 and engage an try to prevent red from scoring

Rotate Roles

If defending team wins the ball they can go and score up other end

End Games (15 mins)

SSG to end, two pitches as before. Numbers to suit can have overloaded teams or jokers depending on age/ability

Try and keep teams small to maximise touches and involvement for the kids, 2v2 or 3v3

Can increase engagement by adding constraints or different scoring methods (paper game as shown by me)

Examples

Pyramid game: First goal is worth 1, second goal worth 2, third goal worth 3 and so on

Dice Game: Each time they score they roll the dice, score is worth whatever they roll

Non Stop Football: When a team scores they then get the ball out of the goal and straight away attack the other end and so on.
