Description

Players will do 4 of the stations 8 minutes each. Do 2 stations, give a water break, 1 stations water break, then scrimmage. If a player wants water, let them get it. Don't stop for water too often unless there is excessive heat. Stop the last station with 20 minutes left regardless of the time into 3rd station. Always end each session with a cheer. Do this training for both of your practice days in the same week. i.e do this same training Monday and Wednesday.

Each player, except the tagger, tucks a bib in the back of their shorts like a tail. The player that is it tries to pull the bib form each of the other players. Once a bib is pulled, that player is out and must stand next to the coach. Last player with bib is tagger in next game.

variations: skipping only, side shuffle, w/2014 and 2013 add a ball. Start with tagger no ball, then add tagger with ball.

Coaching points: Make sure the players are not running while looking backwards, they will run into each other. Players must stay inside the grid.

ORGANIZATION (Physical Environment /Equipment / Players)

Cones to mark a 8x10 field, small goals. 1 ball per two players

COACHING POINTS / KEY CONCEPTS

Players play 1v1. Attacker starts with the ball on the end line. Defender starts at a cone at 1/2 field. Game starts when attacker dribbles into play. Players can switch sides after the game or you can have players return to their line, then switch roles 1/2 way through the activity.

Coaching points: teach them to monitor their own game. When the ball is out or a goal is scored the game is over. Players need to clear the field quickly, then the next game starts. Get the players to recognize when to start the next game. Your main focus will the players waiting and teaching them to start the next game on their own.

Sharks and Minnows

ORGANIZATION (Physical Environment / Equipment / Players)

Cones to mark a 20x30 area. 1 ball per attacking player.

COACHING POINTS / KEY CONCEPTS

Players attempt to dribble safely across the zone. Defender attempts to win a players ball and score on one of the pop up goals. If a players ball is scored, that player becomes a defender in the next round. They may not try and win another players ball until the next round. You will have to remind them of this. Play until there is only 1 attacker left. That player starts as defender in the next game.

Coaching points: keep the ball close and in control. Do not let players kick the ball across the line from 5+ yards away.
